300 wsm

I'm using RL-17 with 180 AB's... it is a do everything load... great cartridge... I like the 7mm WSM just as much and perhaps a touch more.

I haven't shot my Browning X-bolt Carbon Fiber in 300 WSM in over 3yrs. Took it out of the safe today and after 1 shot to foul the clean barrel I used it to shoot a 1700 lb bull in the head at 150yds. Damn thing was only 3 yrs old but went wild and was trying to kill everyone in sight when we were bringing the cows home from pasture. One 180gr BTSPIL loaded with H4350 to the brain and he calmed right down.

Only issue with 300WSM compared to the 300 Win mag is that if you really have a need for 200gr or 220gr bullets as some people do, can't really handload them for sone rifles such as sako due to shorter action space,
Never needed anything heavier than 168gr anyways and much easier on the shoulder as well.

Speaking of other WSMs that one has owned and appreciated, I did have a nice CDL in 300 WSM, but, in the end, my trusty BLR in 270 WSM was much more cartridge for medium game to my mind. I think any Winchester Short Magnum is inherently accurate with almost any suitable powder and any weight of bullet. My 270 WSM really likes H-4198. In fact, this is the rifle for which I cannot find any load that is not accurate utilizing this powder. :)

I see that a lot of you folks use a lot of RL powders, for some reason never got any decent load with any of them.
Tried RL22 and RL25 in a couple of my 300s and a couple 7mm never found a decent load, on the other hand IMR and Hodgdon have being excellent.
I have 8 lbs of Retumbo that is surplus to my needs, What do you fellas say, Too slow?
I might give it a go just for kicks.

Reloaded 22 has been a good choice for a variety of 180gr. Bullet designs. I've recently started experimenting with H4831 and I am getting higher velocity out of my 22" barrel than what Hogdon is advertising out of their 24" gun. Looking promising.

Dont hear it mentioned much but IMR7828 reg or SSC has been very accurate with 180s. RL 19 with 200s and hybrid 100v with 165s. Just my experience. Shot a bunch trying to get accurate loads for a couple finicky Tikka T3s.
