300 wsm

The 300 has a good following, probably the highest of the WSMs, followed by the 270. The 7mm has a good following among reloaders but of any of the WSM family, the 325 is the likely candidate for extinction.

The 300 wizzum is a nice cartridge in certain rifles.... But it doesn't do anything the actual 300wm could do expect exist in a shorter action..... That's where it gets complicated..... Because the steep shoulder is more prone to jamming etc....

just notice that bass pro didn't have much here in Moncton, but they don't have much of anything

The 300 WSM is the new 30-06. It is a great all-round cartridge for moderate to long range shooting.

As mentioned I think a lot of owners hand-load for the round to get the most versatility out of it.

For the record I own - or have owned in the past - several different rifles chambered for the WSM and WSSM cartridges. All have chambered rounds without any hang-ups or problems.

Federal ammunition makes about 20 varieties of ammunition for the 300WSM. Winchester offers about 10. Basically, there is a factory load offered for virtually any situation you may use a 300 magnum for. The 300 WSM has been one of the most popular new cartridges introduced in the 21st century. It's the most popular 300 Magnum after the 300 WM. It's very popular with hunters as it has similar performance to the 300 WM in a short action, so you lose a little bit of weight in a rifle while still retaining the flawless feeding, extraction and velocity of the belted 300 WM - and some shooters simply prefer a short action rifle.

You can get 300WSM ammunition delivered to your door in few days.

In summary, the 300 WSM isn't going anywhere, it's certainly not "on the way out" :)

Now, the 300 RCM on the other hand...

None of the short mags were big sellers here in the Maritimes. You should keep the 303 or start handloading.

it's starting to look that way, I do have a tikka t3 in 300 wsm in mail, a 303 that I love and a savage 99 in 300 savage that I can't bring myself to part with, even think about loading up some 125gr bt for coyotes. I do have an old c frame pacific c frame press I should dig out

Handload or mail order ammo. Lots of site sponsors sell 300WSM ammunition.

Now, the 300 RCM on the other hand...

Most of the new 30 calibers didn't go very far. 300 RUM, 300 SAUM, 300 RCM.....probably a half dozen others that went nowhere. 300 PRC and/or 300 Norma might pick up some steam, although probably won't make a big impact on the hunting world.

From what the little birdies have told me the PRC has basically killed off the Norma Mag.

I thought you said you had a bad shoulder in another thread? If so, you are not gonna like the feel of that tikka on that shoulder at the bench.

I think the popularity of the 300 Norma hinges on what the USA military does with it- does it stay only with specialized units or does it see more widespread use? I guess we will see.

If I was in the market for a standard action 300 I would surely go the PRC route.

Yup ...... That Tikka will let you know what's up. I wouldn't buy a Tikka in a magnum.

For this neck of the woods, a 30-06 would be a better choice for a non-handloader.
