It's a versatile calibre for all hunting in North America. Wouldn't use it varmint hunting though but I don't varmint hunt. With a 165 grain TSX or other premium bullet, one can take deer, bear, elk, moose all with that one load. If you're happy with your 7 Rem Mag, the 300 WSM is not much better. Go with one or the other, either 7 rm or 300wsm. Personally, I could never get my 7RM's to perform to published levels with any accuracy so ditched it for a 300 WSM in a Tikka T3 and now have an awesome hunting rig. (off-thread) Metal shrouds and base plates are cropping up here and there from crafty smiths I've noticed too. Have my name on parts!

I almost bought one, I was looking for a specific rifle over a specific cal. I ended up with the 7wsm over the 300wsm in the rifle that I wanted. I would have bought either one just got a better deal on the 7.

If you want a 300 WSM, then get one. Support the industry. Then later, buy a .338 RUM if you really want to nail something harder. Then buy another, and another, etc.
It's the right thing to do.

I had one in an a-bolt medallion and what you hit you drop....there is nothing I have hunted that wouldn't fall to that round

i had a browning stainless stalker a-bolt 300wsm ..hunted moose ,caribou, deer and bears used winchester supreme 180 gr. accubond bullet .all dropped in they're tracks ..longest shot was 350 yds. shortest shot was 35 yds. all with the same results .bang flop ...sold my 300wsm and bought a new savage weather warrior .243 cal ..it will do the same thing with less noise and recoil ..IF I DO MY PART ...bigger is not always BETTER ..accuracy and practice on the range goes a long way .. but what do i know i have only hunted for 45 years ..


Good thing you have 45 years experiance...that way you wont be suprised when , now with a 243, your bang flops wont be so frequent. You cant ask the same performance from a 6mm 100gr bullet as of a 180gr 30 cal magnum..but you knew that
