Why do Remingtons have such long throats?.....

I cant even touch the rifling-or so it seems?

Are these ok for a bone stock rifle??

Im pretty sure Im shootin to the capabilities of the rifle-perfect still day-front and rear bags-no fudds at the range bothering me about what I hunt with THAT rifle....:)......and a bit of experience

x2, the SMK has shot the best in my 700, im WAY over the book OAL, and still probably 25thou of the lands, but if i go any further the bullet would just fall out of the damn case! so SMK being very jump friendly is probably your best bet here, the hornady and speer stuff i never managed to shoot any where decent, but the smk (with just a good bedding job) brought me down to .5 moa on a good day and .6ish average
 
Yeah going to an AI chassis on my Remington 700 .308 allowed me to seat my bullets out 40 thou longer than the factory internal box mag. Since the change I have gone from groups similar to yours at 200 yards to around 1" at 200 yards. Whether this is totally from the seating depth or from the more ergonomic stock fit I am not sure as I haven't tried any rounds seated at SAAMI spec yet. Personally I think its probably a little bit of both in my case, as I find the AI chassis MUCH more comfortable to shoot than the HS precision I had on it.
 
Hey, it's a remington. You are damn lucky it will do even that. There have been many dudd remingtons made in the last 10 years. I know because friends and I have purchased 5 brand new ones in that time all of which were terrible. The last one was a sendero . I sent it back. They returned it to me with the test groups at 100 yards and said it was acceptable accuracy. It measured 4.25 inches. I then contacted them and said if they didn't replace it I was posting the target online on every site I could think of. Guess what? They sent me a new one.
The other four were scatter guns as well( although not as bad). They were erratic at best .They would throw groups from 1.5 to 3 inches. It didn't matter what you did.
You really take you chances these days buying a remington and you seem to have one of the better ones so thank your lucky stars.

Out of the 5 new ones I mentioned remington replaced 4( one was dangerous.The case would be cut in 2 separate pieces after firing) and the other I simply had blueprinted and rebarreled. I didn't even bother with remington on that one.

Hmmm........ either you're the unluckiest Remington buyer on the planet or your full of sh*t. I'm leaning toward the latter. ;)
 
You can try all the match bullet, it won't help, the reason are the chamber on rem700 ate very ####ty, even on the high end 5r, you need to rechamber with match reamer, tune the action would help much, with aluminum bedding, there is no need to rebed the action, a larger recoil lug would help!
 
It is the absolute truth. You can contact Wortner gun works and the Gravel agency to see if this is true.I doubt they will admit it though but I can post the test target from them from the sendero with their their letter when I get time.
Wortner replaced 3 of them and Gravel agency took care of the sendero.ATRS rebarreled ,blueprinted the 5th and was a nail driver.

More BS. I happen to have a 5R that's very accurate and it hasn't been rechambered or honed.
First off, it's not a "high end" rifle. They cost the same as a Sendero or other "higher end", non Custom Shop Remington. Secondly, rifles with stocks having aluminum bedding blocks still benefit from a proper bedding job.
 
You luck out with an accuracy rifle, I had several of the earlier PSS 700 and they are nail drive, but I had to load the bullet right out to the rifling, it true that not every rifle need an action tune to get a proper align, but some do, I consider the 5r to be abit higher quality then the PSS you get now a day.
Some aluminum bedding block ate not machining out perfectly to match that curve of the action, there for require addition bedding to improve, but not all, if you like to throwing around money for gunsmithing to do more work, you just another poor sucker.

So that is no BS, do some reading and get you s**t straight!

You also said I was full of it but I can clearly prove your statement is false.So who's full of it?

Furthermore, no one is suggesting all remingtons are crap BUT their quality control is so poor these days you just never know how it is going to turn out.
This is not news though. There have been many complaints about remington over the past decade.Search the net and you will see. Other manufactures are getting more consistent with their product turning out better guns.Remngton seems to be headed in the other direction. Again, this is not news but perhaps it is to you.
The other 4 wer all purchased at the same time about 6 years ago.They were all BDL's. Three of us purchased them at the same time and they were all complete pieces of s**t with one being down right dangerous.

In regards to the Sendero I mentioned; Gravel's gunsmith even set the barrel back but it was still a scatter gun so they replaced it. Feel free to contact Gravel and speak to "June" to see if this is true or bs as you insinuate. It was about 6 months ago so I am sure she will remember it.

I would question why you'd continue to buy them if 5/5 have been junk. :confused:
 
I would continue to buy rem700 over other better quality out of the box, you know why, all my gunsmithing I do it myself, the saving are great but the learning is much more important!

Yes, this is why many still buy remington. It is for the footprint and all the after market parts. You can take a piece of s**t remington and turn it into a great gun with some extra work and money.
Right now if you had 20 guys which each had $1200 to spend and 10 bought remington and the other 10 bought Tikkas or savages then have them shoot off against each other the Tikka/savage shooters would overwhelmingly win this contest. I think just about everyone knows this.
