I continued the testing of my handloads for my Swiss Arms by stretching its legs a little and taking it out to 300 yards. I was rather impressed with the group, especially considering there was a gusty 10 km/h cross wind that I had to compensate for. The group measures about 5.5", including 2 shots that were just below the target. I'm getting about 10"-11" of drop at 300yds using 60gr Hornady V-Max bullets.

Shot with my Swiss Arms from a bench, resting on the magazine (short 5rnd mag resting on sand bags, to be precise). The optic I'm using is an ACOG TA31F.

While still a nice group for a rifle that costs 4 grand it doesnt really blow my skirt up , now if those groups shrunk to maybe 3 inches then id be impressed. Not trying to be negative just post a valid data point.

I can see an obvious horizontal shift from the wind, and it looks like that one on top may have been a "flyer". I'll bet with no wind you would have been closer to 2-3 inches. Nonetheless, good shooting.

If I put a higher powered scope (Mil Dot or MRAD, maybe a 4-12x) on it and had it fully supported with sand bags, and had a nice calm day, I'm sure I could have done that, or gotten close to it. But I was resting the magazine on a stack of sand bags without rear support, and using a fixed 4x scope that's not designed for precision shooting, but warfare. I was holding over to adjust for wind and drop (which I obviously didn't do correctly as the group was 4"-5" too low), rather than adjusting the scope. It is more a reflection of my moderate shooting abilities, rather than showcasing the maximum potential of the rifle. I'm also sure that if you handed the rifle and a few magazines of ammo to an experienced service rifle shooter, they could easily show me up. :)

I'm not going to chuck sh@t at anyone for thier expenditure in cash.
I have a single shot 22 LR Hammerli Model 150 target pistol that most here would not bother with.

To each his own.........

PS: That's good shooting for service rifle IMO.

How are you measuring and dispensing your powder?
My use of BL-C2 has given me a fairly generous velocity dispersion which could easily account for some of the vertical you are seeing in that group.
Good shooting btw:)

I'm using a really old lyman powder dispenser, sort of like this one:

I'll weigh one in 10 charges, just to make sure they are relatively consistent. I find that they're almost always within + or - .1grains. I do have a friend with a chronograph, so I'll have to test the muzzle velocity. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if the vertical dispersion was me. In many ways, I prefer shooting at figure 11 targets... It's a lot harder to aim at the middle of nothing rather than a certain white or black blotch on a figure 11, lol.

Thanks, btw. :)

This is good grouping considering the nature of the rifle, my Benelli mr-1 on sand bags and with my 52gr Amax handloads and commercial ammo Hornady Match 75 gr BTHP will keep 10 shots in a paper plate ( 7 or 8 inch group ) @ 350 metres true i have no pictures but i kept all off my target and when i do less shooting i will do more shooting (photos) for the unbeleivers... Cheers. JP.

That is great shooting at 300m - I wish I could ever do that well!

For only twice the cost of AR, that is definitely worth the money, IMHO. (Assuming that a real AR starts around $1500, and a Swiss is $3k - Adding bells and whistles to your AR platform will obviously increase price, and as we all know - The Swiss is just about damend perfect right out of the box... Except for having the charging handle on the wrong side, of course!).

:)

Awsome Ar180shooter. I am a recently converted Swiss Arms owner. Keep the updates coming.

I am dialing in a load my Swiss right now. It's got an ACOG as well.

I tried Varget, Win 748 and H335. The gun loves 25 gr of H335 under a 52 gr SMK.

Since I have settled on my my powder/bullet combo, I'm going to experiment with OAL. I tried crimping and the groups opened up.

I attached some photos of 50 yard groups. The gun can put them into one hole at 50 yards when I do my job. As always I have some fliers, my fault, but the groups show promise.

I can't wait to stretch her legs and take her out to 300 yards.

Here are some 50 yard targets.
