I have a Benelli R1 3006 and was thinking of trying out the Barnes 110 gr bullets. Does anyone have any experience on how well a bullet this light will stabilize and would you use it for deer hunting 75 -200 yard range. I was told that you can go lighter with Barnes bullets and get the same performance but I also hear guys who say most Benelli's don't like anything under 150 gr

I shot them in a Rem model 7 at 3600 fps with 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups.
The bullet is a bit longer than any 150gr cup and core that I compared it to.
As for hunting, I can't think of anything in Canada that wouldn't shoot with this combo.

You'll be fine for deer, as long as your rifle shoots them well.

Okay, thanks JJ-65 and Lefty D .... I looked at the size of the bullet and thought .. Will something that small work for deer ... As Im more accustomed to a 165 gr Nosler or something similar for deer.
Has anyone developed a load for 3006 with the 110 Barnes that they care to share?

A 110 is really a .30 Carbine bullet. Although they do nicely for varmints out of an '06. Barnes' data shows 'em as friggin' screamers. Running 3225 to 3617 fps depending on the powder. Likely be fine for Ontario deer, if your rifle will shoot 'em.

It's a monolithic bullet!
There's guys killing deer, moose and elk with cup core 100gr 6mm pills all the time.... And if your lucky the retained weight might be 65% of the original weight after it does it's stuff inside the critter.
The Barnes bullets will retain 95% or better of their weight.

My wife killed, deer and moose with the old original Barnes X, 100gr, .277", out of a .270Win, recovered very few bullets, but took home a whole lot of critters!

Don't equate monolithic's to cup/cores, it's apples and oranges.

The Barnes wwebsite gives the following powder and load data for 3006 with the 110 gr Barnes TTSX
Type grs FPS grs FPS Load Density
2520 59.5 3397 64.5 3615 95
or
RL 10X 48.0 3225 53.0 3503 88

Does anyone have any other powder suggestions/loads
I assume I could use Varget?
Anyone have any suggestions for IMR or Hodgdons since Reliant is very scarce

I assume I can look for a 110 - 120 gr bullet from another manufacturer and then use Hodgdon/IMR powder suggestions?

This is what I go from the Hodgdons website for Hornady 110 gr SP 30 cal bullets and from the Alliant site

IMR IMR 4895 .308" 3.170" 56.0 3,303 48,200 PSI 59.8 3,505 57,300 PSI
Hodgdon Varget .308" 3.170" 55.0 3,308 44,400 CUP 59.0 3,452 48,500 CUP

I have some Reloader 15 and got this from their site
Speer 110 gr SP REloader 15 60 gr 3307 FPS

Any suggestions what to do. I have lots of Varget so that would be my preference

I am loading the Barnes 130 grain TTSX in one of my 308 Norma Mags....it is indeed a screamer.

The good part is, it shoots sub-moa consistently.
I would not hesitate to shoot any cervid in BC with this combo. [Thus, the 110 in an '06 should be just fine]

I would be trying H or IMR 4895, possibly IMR 3031. Vihtavuori N135 may also perform well with that bullet.
You might have to experiment a bit to see what that Benelli will digest.

Regards, Dave.

its not a 30 carbine bullet and its not intended for 30 carbine

Try H4350

Ive used 110gr Vmax in the .30-06 and it stabilized fine, and its shorter than the ttsx. 3500 fps.
