I am just wondering if I should mount a scope on my 3006 semi-auto rifle for hunting or it's o.k to hunt without scope cause it's semi-auto ??? never hunt with semi-auto before,I got a bolt action 3006 with scope, any help would be appreciated, thanks a lot!!!

for close range, a peep sight would work better. For medium to longer range shooting a low power variable (1-5x, or 2x-7x) would work well, or even a fixed 4x scope.

Just spray and pray.
You mean spray the stock (w/bedliner) and pray everyone still likes you? :p

Now, back on topic ......... Open sights or a receiver sight will work fine on any action. They keep your rifle alot lighter and handling will generally be improved over a scope mounted gun.

"...o.k to hunt without scope cause it's semi-auto..." Whether it's a semi-auto or not makes no difference. A scope allows you to see the target better. Therefore, you'll be able to place the shot more accurately.
I'd put a 2.5X to 8X on it. Mind you, it depends on the rifle and what you're hunting.

Go both ways City Hunter. Put a set of see-thru mounts on the gun. Then you can use your open sights for close shots and running shots. Then you still have your scope for a long shot or if you need to get a better sight picture on your game. The only bad thing about see-thru mounts is you need to lift your check from the stock to line your eye up with the scope. Some guys have problems with accuracy when the do this, but if you spend some parctise time at the range you can learn to do well.

What sunray said. I was taught that just imagine every rifle you have is a single shot. The first shot is the most important. The only advantage of the semi is you don't have to reload yourself. You still have to recover from recoil and reaim. A peep sight is good, that is what I use most of my hunting is inside 100 yards. My mod 94, 356 is light, handy, and just doesn't look right or carry the same with a scope. I tried it and didn't like it. Just my .02.

scope or binoculars

having owned a30-06 semi (remington),and actually still own it .It all depends on what your hunting and where. alot of areas now have such b.s. antler restrictions on legal game that scopes have become a neccesity.unless you like carrying binoculars.I've taken deer, and moose with my semi with or without a scope either way it's more the shooter than the equipment i think. If you've already got a scoped gun, might be an idea to keep this one open sights, scopes suck in the fog.:) :)

No, no, no! Close your eyes and press on the trigger repeatedly as fast as you can. Whatever you will be aiming at will die of shock from all the noise... or more likely, of laughter! Heck, I'm pissing myself right now and I'm no where near you!

Are you for real?

He said he used the scope to double check the antlers for legality, not glassing.

that's assuming naturally that every one on here is a f**king moron and not a genius like you. I have good enough eyesight and education to tell the difference between a moose and a person. Of course when I lift my rifle and look through the scope it's always locked and loaded and I just start blasting.what a putz! If you can't see a moose without using binoculars that's your problem not mine.
