300blk for my kid? deer

Advantages of the .300 Blackout are can use .223 cases, common .308 diameter bullets bolts and magazines if using a modern sporting rifle(black rifle). 7.62x39 still has cheap surplus and bulk hornady 123 grain interlock for reloading. There aren't any .30 cal bullets I know that reliably perform if loaded subsonic so that advantage of the .300 is kind of negated to me.
Are suppresors legal down in Australia?
Form the cartridges you listed the 6.5 grendel and .223 are my favorites for differing reasons. With careful use the .223 is certainly capable for deer. You're using the .222 and 55 grain zmax bullets with success currently so you're familiar with the considerations needed. A properly set up .223 will do more than your current .222, better hunting bullets and launching high BC bullets to learn shooting skills to last a lifetime for cheap is one of them. The Grendel with careful use can be put to service taking larger game and has mild recoil and report you both may come to appreciate. Magazine length will really hamper the Grendels performance with slippery bullets but as a hunting gun I think its an often overlooked gem.
A .350 Legend may be your huckle berry I don't know about you're current availability but locally it has remained available and if not cheap reasonable in price.

I've shot a couple of deer with the BLK, launched out of my AAC Handi-Rifle with a 16" tube, one big doe and mid-sized 6 point, both with the 125gr Nosler Ballistic Tip over a max charge of H110, and neither of them went 50m after the hit. Use a decent, velocity-appropriate bullet and you're golden out to 100m if you tuck it in the right place.

Could never fault calibers listed. If want to buy one gun he can grow to using when get older and wants more out of it, could try reduce loads in 308, 7mm08 etc. 6.x55 swed is a good one as some of factory loads are low for recoil( ppu 140 run at 2450-2500 out of 24” brl). Rifles like husky 1600 are good and easy to get stocks for if have to cut one down till grows into a full size stock and some are in 20” brl length

i also have quite alot of 130gr ppsn woodleighs,....... i rekon that is a deadly combo in the blk for even our big deer... Dad will have test that out..

Personally, I'd have to ask myself why not just download 308 for now, and then increase pressures as the boy grows?

Where did you wind up on this, WhelanLad?
