300BLK in a 556 barrel

This shooter was lucky. If that hadn’t been a bull barrel that thing would have split apart like a banana. Apparently the mag blew out and the firearm didn’t go unpunished.

I have to assume the cartridge chambered by driving the bullet deep into the case. That would certainly be possible with sub-sonic loads, which leave a lot of case space unused. That would also help prevent an even more catastrophic failure.

Still, pretty cool to see the bullet all stretched out like that.

That is exactly why I don't take my 223 and 300blk to the range together.
Such a shame, that looks like it was a very nice barrel.
Glad no one was hurt.

And there is no reason to not take .223 and 300blk to the range. You just have to follow proper safety procedures and actually look at the ammo your putting in your gun before you put it in your gun.

True, but I let other people at the range shoot my rifles and I hate hovering over someones shoulder babysitting them to make sure they don't hurt themselves (and my expensive rifles). If it was just me all the time it wouldn't be a big deal.

I got rid of my 6mm AR upper for this reason, it was difficult to tell them apart from 223 rounds if they got mixed up (same head stamps).

A simple check of the mag could have avoided this. If the mags were pre-loaded before going to the range, marking the mags with a coloured piece of tape could have helped save the shooter from making a mistake.

All it takes is one moment of being un-attentive to ruin more than one's day. Hopefully, the shooter wasn't hurt.

I use different coloured mags for my 300 BLK. I have the OD Pmags for 300 BLK. Even then I don't tend to take 300 and 556 to the range at the same time.
