300m Zero on MeatEater Ep2.

This is what I like. A fixed power scope with a simple aiming system. It’s fast, simple, and my turrets are fixed and covered.

It was Jack O’Connor that said that the more a shooter relied on a flat shooting cartridge and the less he relied on his fallible guesser the better off they would be. While Jack was practically synonymous with the 270 he had lots of time in with the .257 Weatherby, the .300s and just about everything else. The guy had hundreds of rifles, and hunted with Roy.

certainly the guy was usin a big magnum, so with those figures a yonder 300 zero makes sense.

an ardent definatly sound advice for clients on mtn goats, 300 would be a 'close one' on most good days id assume..

dogleg, funny that yer walken round +3 moa on the clickers , had a giggle.

i have stainless rings on the kimber 7-08 an i too write down the numbers an reference the hashes as thepic above illustrates! very handy

I have been set at 3.5” high at 100m with my 300wm with 180 grain billets since mid 90s. My zero is close to 325m with my reloads and about 5-6” low at 500m. Spent lots of time at the range especially when I bought a new Sako m75ss 300wm in summer of 97. I have spent lots of time at the gun range with this rifle and new the rifle/load and my shooting skills. Learned how to use my duplex reticle for range finding in my Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10x40 scope. This rifle still shoots like a dream.
I have taken big game between 10m out to 554m..: mostly all clean and 1 shots kills. Very few 2 shot follow-ups. I Try to get within 100m or closer as that’s the fun in calling and stalking but very comfortable if need to shoot longer distances from my range time.

My hunting buddy has the same setup as we bought identical rifles at the same time. He sets his for 2-2.5” at 100m. Just his preference.

I believe 6" at 400m not 500m.
