300WM with Varget

For many years, I used a light load in my 308 Norma Magnum for "plinking" and it was a pleasure to shoot, plus it helped me familiarize myself with the rifles used.

The load was with the 180 Sierra Flatbased softpoint. [Pro-Hunter now] using 50 grains of IMR 3031, which is a bit faster than Varget.

This load shot exactly 2" below my full-house hunting load at 100 yards, and made beautiful groups consistently.

I eventually got to chrony it, and it was around 2625 fps.. I also shot a number of deer with this load, and they never seemed to notice that it was a reduced load. LOL.

Regards, Dave.

205 gr bullets, R-17, F215M primers, great accuracy. 2975 fps. Varget worked great in the same rifle with 155 gr bullets. Best accuracy was @ 3210 fps.

These loads were fired in a 300 WSM.

Oops, OP is about 300 Win Mag not WSM.

Tried Varget in .300 WM once................not again. Tried with 165 grain Sierra bullets
Loads were 2.5 grains under max, case separations on 3 of 4 rounds. Brass was once-fired Remington
Went home, pulled the bullets from the rest of the loads and haven't tried Varget in .300 WM again.
