300wsm as a precision rifle

my buddy has a savage mod 12 I think in 300wsm with laminate stock it shoots great he told me he shot som 2 1/2-3 " groups out at 600m.
If you want to compete though you may wan't to look at a 6mm or 6.5mm there are a lot of good wilcats out there .

I have a very accurate tactical rifle in 300 WSM... I like the cartridge... cartridge choice in tactical competition in the U.S. swings more to one of the 6.5's... 260, 6.5 x 47 Lapua, 6.5 Grendal etc...

300wsm would be great. I prefer a 7wsm just because there are more ballistic coefficient bullet options, but either way, they are great. Tough to shoot over an extended period without a break though.

Checkout 6mmbr.com. Lots of 300wsm info.

I was wondering if anybody has used one, I know the 308 is the most populer. But with the extra velocity of the wsm case and the short action it seems to be a good choice. Thanks:cheers:

.308 are really only popular with the Target Rifle crowd, because of the TR rules. For F Class/precision shooters the caliber is only limited by the range safety template and the depth of your pockets.

WSM=Magnum

Unfortunatly in BC while shooting BCRA sanctioned matches we are not allowed to use "magnums". This rule is a pain in the rear, you could take a 404 jeffry and neck it down to whatever you want and be legal but you can't use a 243 WSSM because it is a "magnum".

I do have a 300 WSM gopher gun and it shoots like a laser. 125 gr Nosler Ballistic tip moving out @ 3750 fps, this is a riot.

I've seen a few 300WSM rifles since it came out and have yet to see anyone enjoying great success. Recoil is a problem for most.
Gary Geske (maker of the Geske action out of Superior, Montana) made one up the year it was introduced and it shot well enough but wasn't a breakthrough outfit.
I have been considering one on an action I have with a magnum bolt face but I would have to stamp the barrel as something else since I've been critical of the WSM's and wouldn't want to be seen as a convert. Maybe I'll just bush the face and make a 308! Regards, Bill
