Starting a load for my savage 12 VLP in 300wsm,
U guys have any recipes that work? Which powder, bullet weight etc...
1 in 10" twist, 26" barrel.

savage model 11 LRH 26" (63 gr. h380), hornady 168 bthp i'm not a great shot, rather sloppy in fact but it will get me down to 1/2" on a good day most days 5/8" @100 yards

I couldn't get any 168s to shoot well, so switched to 190grSMK with good success. I use 62.5gr of H4350 (not IMR4350) out of a 24inch tikka and have had some pressure signs on hot days - so start with less powder :)

Yip, low 60's grns of H4350 worked for me.

I don't have a ton of experience with the caliber, but very low 60s and a 180 NBT is cutting 1/2". My charge is low compared to the books, but the pressure sure isn't.The book max loads are way too hot in my rifle.

I couldn't get great results with anything, until I switched to a 180 gr Hornady Interlock SP, with 63.2 grains of IMR 4350 in my Savage 16 in 300WSM.
I gave some to my buddy to shoot in his Tikka (after checking his chamber length) and he said it was the most accurate load he's ever tried in his rifle as well.

honestly I have yet to try a combination of hornady bullets and win760 that wasnt accurate, I dont run at the max loads either, hard on brass.

WW Brass, WLRM primer, 165 GMX, 63 grains of RL17 or 62 grains of W760.

These both shoot very well in my Vanguard 300 WSM.

Many 300 WSM rifles are pretty tight. Any Federal factory load in my rifle is "hot", leaving a mark on the head of the case from the ejector hole.

Regards, Dave.

In my tikka 300wsm I use Speer target match 168grn, Win or fed brass H414 63.5grn works damn well for me, H414 seems to be cheaper as well, or 168 grn nosler BT 64.5 grn Hybrid 100v fed and win brass,
i use CCI br2 primers in everything cause they were cheap and bought a bunch good luck loading

I have a 300wsm in a Tikka T3. I shoot 208Amax over 62.0gr of H4350. Maybe a couple thou off the lands so its not taking up case capacity. 2820fps. Run the numbers, its a powerful, accurate long range load.

I would agree with Bowron , the 208gr A-max with that velocity would be a 1000 yard hammer for sure. You might even want to try the Berger hybrid's , 215gr & 230gr pills offer a very impressive B.C for reaching out there & touching thing's. Pretty hard to beat the 4350's burn rate in those short mag's. I haven't tested it in the 300wsm , but imr 4451 is proving to be very efficient in the 270wsm with the heavy Berger's. But I will know more on this powder over the next few months as the temp's drop & hopefully get my order of the the new Berger (.277) cal 170gr pills in. Anyway good luck with your long range quest.

Cheer's

Same, I switched to h1000 and no preasure with some very good velocity

Interesting, I don't see a lot H1000 data for the WSM. What bullet weight and velocities are you getting? I'm getting 2950 fps with the 180s and H4350 which is the book speed from Hodgdons, it's just that I get it with the starting load. Can't complain too much.

I've got a few rifles like that, meet or exceed the book with lighter loads. All have tight chambers and decent barrels.

I'm a little curious about using H-1000 powder also, my first thought that it would have too slow of a burn rate for that chambering to achieve optimum performance. We did do some testing with a .300wsm using some 7828 powder with 200gr , 208gr, & 215gr pill's. But could not find the accuracy & the ES was horrible, maybe it was the 24in barrel of the Browning ?? We did have excellent result's with the 4831 powder's & re-19 worked well. Maybe we missed something playing with the .300wsm though (that's happen to me a few time's). So yes please give us some detail's on your finding's with H-1000 powder..

Thanks
