300wsm v 300 min mag and other big 30cal rounds

I don't quite agree with them being "big kickers" as I had a T3 Lite in .338 win mag and it was no worse than any of my .300wm rifles. I kept the loads sensible, and it was a real thumper. Kind of miss it, but have a .375 ruger to wipe away my tears with..........

I totally agree with you there as I had the very same rifle for several years until someone else fell in love with it.
I hunted with 250 gr. loads almost exclusively and found the 338 to be an excellent all around hunting rifle, never had a problem.
As far as recoil in a Tikka, I found my Tikkas in 9.3 and 338 WM to be quite manageable.
My 6 lb. Forbes '06 with a stiff 220 gr. handload gets my attention much faster than did my Tikkas..... but then again maybe I'm getting soft in my old age ??

Nope sure wasn't........not a Tikka fan..........it was on an old Ruger 77 round top, not sure if you're familiar with them. I didn't have it built, I bought it that way.

And yes this photo is nearly 1/2 a life ago..........32 at the time, my first African adventure !!!

Great picture my Friend.... but I have to ask.... if you were 32 then wasn't that before the Ruger company existed ???

reload with superformace and will do anything the win mag will do pick your cartridges opposite u choose a woman short and thick instead of tall and thin and u should never go wrong

I HAVE to take exception with this statement, it will equal factory 300 H&H loads but I'm sorry it doesn't even come close to the Win Mag at the same max pressures in the same barrel length. Will any critter hit in the same place inside 400 mtrs know the difference? Not likely, but neither would they with an 06 so .........I'd love to see a WSM drive a 200 grn at 3100 out of a 24" barrel, I've had 3 different 300 WM that would do it using IMR 7828 and W-W brass with a 200 Part.

The 300 WM is a very nice cartridge for a lot of different larger game. Maybe lots on a WT or Muley but enough to get done what you need

Come on, if somebody can do it its you!:D

A friend and I both have 300 win mag, his is a Tikka and mine is a browing x bolt. He was saying how his recoil made it uncorfortable for long shooting sessions. We went to the range and swapped rifles, immediately it became clear that the rifle stock design made a significant difference. We used the same rounds and his was uncomfortable quickly.

Nope tried, best I could do was 3200 with 150s and 3100 with 165s, I truly thought it would do better but that was it, maximum, ejector marks on W-W brass. 24" barrel. Tried all the new super powders too, that were supposed to make that fat little case into a Win Mag, but no joy..........a good H&H maybe, a hot 06 for sure, but a Win Mag.........never !!

For deer hunting in Ontario, the optimal calibers are 260, 7mm-08, 270, 30-30 and 308. You can also hunt moose with these rounds when you grow into it.

300WSM or any magnum rounds have more power than the above for deer. They also come with the excessive recoil and addition cost for ammo/powder.

T3 is very light, accurate and cost effective for hunting purposes. I have three T3s and I like them.

As many have mentioned T3 in 300WSM may have recoil issues for most beginners. Limbsaver is a help for sure but recoil is still there for some.

I think you have enough feedback here from the members to make an informed decision.

Good luck!

I like those Xbolt stocks, they come with a good pad and seem to soak up recoil well.

My t3 300 wsm I'm getting 3300 fps with 165 ab and 168 ttsx. 3040 fps with 180 ttsx.

I have never been luckey enough to get even close to those speeds with accuracy with a 300 wsm. Although I have a friend that absolutely has with amazing accuracy. Im having one built the exact same way he did , same action , same barrel, same stock , same reamer , same gunsmith. keeping my finger crossed this time

Rl-17 is the ticket in the wsm but good luck finding it..

I'm using r19 in my 300wsm (sako 85). 180g accubonds are spitting out at 2960fps (crony at 15'). Not sure if I can get them hotter or not as it was fast enough and that seemed to be where the accuracy was so I stopped there. Good moose load and the recoil is comparable to a rem 700 30.06 so nothing to flinch over.
