300wsm vs 30-06 vs .308

I used a BLR in 243,with 100 g relods for deer hunting,longer than I can remember.That was long before I had a computer.

I have 3 30-06's and 1 300WSM. I take the 300wsm out WAY more often than I do the 30-06. My vote would be for the WSM. I used to have 5 30-06's, but I sold 2 of them. If I'm hunting something like a deer, then I use a .270 or a .280. If the game is bigger, like and elk, then I'll use a 30 cal magnum like the wsm or one of my 308 Norma Magnums. The 30-06's don't seem to get past the range most seasons.

And I have no interest in, nor use for, the .308win. Not that there's anything particulary WRONG with the 308win, it just doesn't interest me. I've killed a couple deer with that cartridge over the years. The deer died. But I prefer the .270 and .280 for deer and I prefer a 30 cal magnum for Elk and larger.

Felt recoil on the tikka can be greatly reduced by taking off the hockey puck recoil pad and putting on a limbsaver prefit. I had a 338 win mag t3 lite that was not at all unpleasant to shoot with the limbsaver on.

well, during my solid good sleep, I have decided, in my mind, that the 308 Win is the winner for sure. There really was no doubt in my mind, before my sleep crash, but I had to in all fairness, consider the other's whatever they were!

If you already have a 300WSM and like it, then spend the money on getting into reloading. You can alwaqys make the 300 shoot like a 30-06 or a 308, but it's hard to go the other way.

My 3 favorite caliburs in order

1 - 7 REM MAG

Extremely close 2nd - 300 WSM

3 - 708 REM

4 - 338 LM

300 WSM is a go too cartridge for everything except G bears and varmint ... Technically could be used for varmint and G bears. Look no further, your good !
