I took a target of opportunity today because the elk seem to have left the building (or at least the south end of Alberta ).
I think I may have been a little undergunned. Next time I'll bring along the 50 BMG to make sure it's a cleaner kill.

Federal Fusion 165 gr factory at 160 yards on young female coyote.

It was a high chest shot that basically turned into a spine shot as you can see.

Sigh... I'm happy for the coyote kill, but really wish the elk would come back.

nice, I caught one with a 300winmag up north about 10 years ago. Nearly took his head clean off when i shot him he was 280 yards and looking straight at me, hit him in the throat with a 180g psp and he dropped so fast I thought I missed, until i seen the fur ball float away in the air LOL

Yeah it's about a 4" diameter hole, but it's good practice for future bear pelts I hope to harvest and tan myself.
There are so many dogs in this particular area that I'm coming back with my 243 later to take care of business. That should keep the holes a little more manageable.

I found the best load for coyote pelts in my 243 was leaving it at home and takking my 223.

Oh now you tell me that after I sold my 223... lol! I'm pretty sure the holes will be at least half the size of the 300wsm, so I can live with that.
