303 ammo price shock..

Went to check my local CT, I could not find any 303. But alot of empty shelves.

When Dad gave me his No4... He was like, you think I'll give you a rifle without ammo? Gave me 5 boxes of 303 and reloading dies.

I picked up some reddot powder, and some 123grn .311 bullets.

Then you're all set. And I'll betcha a lot of hunting rifles have never seen a hundred rds. through them in a lifetime.

We tried M43 projectiles (125 gr)...our LE didn't really shine with them...too short of a section contacting rifling? Let us know how it works.

Will do, when it is time to load for the 303. I'm not expecting laser accuracy, but decent plinking accuracy, to get the old girl out. I know from my 308 reduced powder load, I'm going to have to deal with alot of drop.

just dug out a bunch of once fired 303 range brass, culled about 10% right off that were out of round from being fired in a generous chamber.

cleaned full length sized trimmed and primed a batch of 250 for future reloading, then I found another coffee can with more 303 brass, that's in the tumbler getting cleaned. I'll inspect and cull the stretched ones and get on with processing those too in the next week or so.

now to find the bullets, I have some 174grn round nose or 180grn spitzers, might need to buy more.

For plinking and light loads we've used SKS 123 grain projectiles. For added benefit SKS bullets are cheaper and a lighter charge of powder doesn't beat up the brass or our shoulders.

Just finished casting about 500 Lyman 311299's. CG'd and sized 314 they are as accurate as many jacketed loads. Have leaned my 303 flock to two #4's and a #5. Haven't been shooting them as much as they deserve.

I've got a Nr 1 Mk 3 Lithgow sporterized by Parker Hale with a Monte Carlo stock, 5rd flush mag, drilled & tapped for scope. I've never bought factory ammo for it. Reloaded since day 1.
