Hey guys,

I'm from the west coast in the city and as of now there is only one place I can get .303 brit.
I went in there the other day to grab some rounds for pinking and due to the ammo shortage they are fully out.
I'm wondering if anyone has leads on where to buy .303? It's getting more and more scarce which is suprising
because everyone and their grandma as a lee enfield these days.

You have two choices for loaded .303 BR - old milsurp at the auction sites, or new hunting ammo in the stores. You've figured out the second option isn't workable. I've seen wartime Canadian 1943 and 1944 ammo go for $65 for a box of 48 on the sites.

Save your brass, necksize it, and reload again!

But then reloading supplies are tight now too, sigh.

Firearms Outlet Canada has had a good supply in the past but I see that they are temporarily out of stock. I didn’t realize there was such a shortage. When gun shows start again that’s a decent option. You can’t have the WW I surplus I have squirrelled away.

Ohh yes. Reload 303 is the only way. I still use a lee loader but bump shoulders back with a redding shoulder bump die. I do have a hornady 303 set for the off chance. But yes..
Buy components whenever you have some spare change...I can probably load 303 for years to come.

learn how to cast your own projectiles for the 303 and you can load bullets for years. as others have mentioned, only neck resize to save the brass. canammo has a really good deal on dominion 5744 right now, which is the go to powder for reloading cast. you can alos use this power for reloading cast for other military rifles.

Which place could you get 303brit before?

I find it hard to believe that nowhere in Greater Vancouver has any? You've tried Reliable Gun, Italian Sporting Goods, Lever Arms, Wanstalls, Tiger Arms, International Shooting Supplies, Cabelas, Bass Pro, Walmart, and Canadian Tire?

Seems like the major US ammo manufacturers may have stopped producing .303 Brit as the retail prices (if this caliber is in stock at all) are absolutely crazy. PPU and Sellier & Bellot still seem to producing plenty of .303 but not readily available lately. Wolf WPA did a run of bimetal cased .303 back in 2015-2017 - not sure if it still is being produced.

Our ammo supply is driven by the Americans.

They dont use 303. They arent making much if it.

be careful with the surplus ammo, i fired mystery .303 from a gun show out of my jungle carbine and recieved an eye full of hot gas out the back of the bolt sleeve. it only happened with one out of 20 rounds but it was enough to burn my eye. friends said the muzzle flash came out the back of the bolt!

I've never had trouble finding Winchester SuperX at places like Canadian Tire, but I haven't looked in a few years either.

edit - I just checked Canadian Tire's webpage. They have some SuperX on Vancouver Island and in Kamloops, for like $33/box. They also have some Rem CoreLokt in Port Coquitlam and Maple Ridge, but those are...wait for it... $73 a box!!!! Good Lord thats expensive for CoreLokt!

There is a story floating around here where two Enfields were blown up with some old surplus ammo, I think it was ww2 vintage? The first one blowing up resulted in a trip in an air ambulance and the second was done with the same ammo under controlled conditions. AFTER blowing up the second rifle they pulled some rounds apart and found the powder to be heavily degraded.

Long story short, be careful of 303 Surplus, especially if its from the 1940s or earlier.

As of now reliable gun is the only store to carry .303
Atleast from what I've seen snooping around.
There are 3 boxes of .303 in Canadian Tire. Two in Kelowna and one in Saanich.
Slim pickings.....
