Hey guys,
I want to try some really light bullets for yotes.
I have an enfield #4 MK 1 and was wondering about .310 diameter bullets. I have tried .308 and they shoot well but not as well as the .311 and .312's. (found the loading data in a really old Hodgdon reloading manual) The bore is tight enough for .308 I would assume the .310s would shoot better. The lightest bullets I could find where I live are 123gr rnsp's at .310 diameter. Can't find any loading data for 123's could only find data on 125's. Would it be disastrous to use the 125 data. I have tried 5 different powders in this gun, the only one it seems to like is BLC2. Have tried to find loading data on BLC2 and 123 or 125s No luck yet. Has anyone tried BLC2 on such light bullets? The data I have found so far has no info on BLC2. Any input?

The Lee I have only lists Reloader 15, 7 and win748 in 123gr

Nothing in that weight in the other 3 manuels I have

I load BL-c(2) in .303 with good success. Cast and jacketed bullets. I'm just waiting till I have some money and i'm going to try some berry's 129gr rn CMJ .310s made for 7.62x39. There are also a wide variety of .308-312 hollowpoint pistol bullets that could work......somethign to think about :)

Also, I have loaded up some .312 round balls with 12 grains of 700x. If the yote was under 50 yards, I'd use those rounds :)

The .310 123gr will work ok. Use 125 data.

I do not suggest BLC2 with a light bullet. It will tend to give you click-bang.

An extruded powder like 4895 would be better. or something faster like N135 or 4198 or 3031.

mwjones. Where did you get the loading data? Are you estimating based on experience? The 123 gr 7.62 X 39 .310 bullet is the one I want to try.

the old round ball trick is passed down over the age's.

with pistol bullets and round balls light charges and alot of polyfil.

i do like to use a round ball that just engraves the rifling then coat it in grease(white lithium grease works well) the grease acts like a sabot sealing the bore and the ball picks up a slow twist.

http://guns.connect.fi/gow/arcane1.html this is a good place to start

but i will tell you as long as the bullet is lighter use the data closest to the weight start low and work up

I haven't tried the 129's yet. I'd use the 125 data, though. I HAVE shot 110gr .308 plated round nose in my 7.62x51 mauser, and I would definitely reccomend a faster powder. BL-C(2) and 4895 tend to leave a bunch of unburnt powder in the barrel/chamber/case/magazine unless they're max loads, and i don't think my old spaniard is meant to shoot 110s at 3600fps :)

I got the data from the hodgdon website.
