303 brit for bear ???

Be sure you learn bear anatomy and place your shots carefully for a clean kill because many bears come to bait at the very end of the day and shooting light. Tracking a wounded bear by flashlight isn't my idea of fun.

I am starting to plan a bear hunt in SK but before I get too carried away is it expecting too much of my brit 303 to do properly? I am considering a used 30-30, would it work better? Any suggestions would be great.

p.s. I've never hunted bear before. So any pointers there would be great also.

OH YEAH!!
I've used both the 30/30 with (flat nosed 170 grian bullets)
and the .303 ( with 180 grian spire points)
Both work well , but if I had my druthers, the .303 would be the one in my hands every time!
I love that cartridge....

I'm a big fan of heavy bullets, even if they do go slower, so I'd recommend the 200+ grain bullets for the 303 Brit.

I agree in a perfect world all .303 cartridges would be loaded with 215 grain bullets.

heck if your close enough 7.62 can drop black bears the're one guy with two bears kills with his SKS from what i head they are DRT kills .303 will do you just fine

And another has a Black bear kill with his CZ858.
So methinks a .303 will work fine.

I still remember the time my dad came home with a .303 he just bought from the hardware store for $40. He already owned a .270 and 30-06 but he told me he wanted to try it out because the .303 worked pretty good for them in the war. A couple days later a bear strolled through our yard. One shot and that was it. He said yep, it works pretty good...

The .303 will kill any game you care to hunt with no fuss. You don't need 215 grain bullets either. Not that there are any any more. 150's to 180's will do nicely. Check the headspace, work up a load or try as many brands as you can to find the ammo your rifle shoots best and sight in.

I think Woodleigh Bullets still makes them? They are Australian I believe and I think you can still get them here.

Marstar had some very heavy for cal bullets. There should be a 180gr RN by Hornady or maybe it was Sierra.

At any rate, shoot it where it matters and it will die in due course.
