.303 Britanica??? Anyone ever heard of that?

The big problem was Lothar.

Lothar died young and the French and the Germans have been fighting over his kingdom for the last 1100 years.

(Latin) Lotharingia=Lothar's Kingdom=(German) Lothringen=(French) Lorraine

And that's where it started, whether we like it or not.

What a waste!

If you want to gain some insight as to how WW1 affected the French national character and contributed to it's downfall in WW2, go spend a couple of days studying the Verdun battlefield and monuments.

x2 on the anti french sentiment stemming from their [France's] "modern" stance.

NO: Yankee bombers in our airspace for Libyan bomb runs.
NO: Iraq participation
and, a few others. Imagine...a nation saying "no" to the US is now considered cowardly? While us Brave Canadians (and I'm proud of it) roll over on lumber tarrifs...

...personally I prefer "Toronto" jokes!

Yes, I just wish our government had the backbone to know when to say no...

+1 on the Toronto jokes!

My Grandfather was a frenchmen from New Bruinswick, and served with the 23rd Field Company, Royal Canadian Engineers, and as he told me any french speaker with in the forces was a great asset to any of the commanding officers when they hit france/Germany as they(officers) for the most part couldn't read or talk the french language, so he was taken along with the Officers so they could find there way through Europe. And I would not have wanted to tangle with my grandfather, he may have not said much, but put everthing into action instead of using his voice!!! SO I salute all our brave French soldiers who served us so bravely, god blessyou! Dale in T-Bay, PS anyone wanting to know any of the history of this Engineer company, please feel free to contact me or email dzywina@yahoo.ca

I was sort of hoping that it was a mis-spelling and that it really WAS ".303 Brittanica".

Can you even IMAGINE that? Thirty-six volumes in matched leather bindings, ALL about the .303? I REALLY want a copy! That would possibly be even better than Peter Labbet's wonderful book!

I will seek out a box of these next time I am in The Big City. With a French label, they should complement my Ross (made in Quebec) rather nicely!
