I tried loading some Remington and Winchester 303 British Ammo in my Enfield Mark 3 and the bolt wont close all the way ??
It seems like the Ammo is too long or something , I thought all these used 303 British Ammo .
Is it a headspace issue ?
It dosnt say anything on the barrel or action about what calibre it is .

If the box of ammo is marked 303 British than it will fit, its taught on gun courses that if you have a miliarty 303 rifle for 303 british ammo, its takes only 303 British, Rem AMMO MAY SAY 303, BUT IF IT DOES NOT SAY 303 BRITISH ON THE BOX, IT WON'T FIT ETC

Sounds initially like your headspace might be too tight... usually it's the opposite problem.

If you don't know what you're doing, have it inspected by a local smith and see what the problem is. If it is a headspace problem, see if he can swap bolt heads for you until the problem is fixed.

A few questions first though, to move this along:

- How clean is your chamber? Is it pitted? Rusty? Give it a good look and a good cleaning, you want to make sure the cartridge isn't getting stuck on anything. Same question for your bolt lugs and recesses in the reciever. Are they clean and free of pitting or dents?

Let us know what you find.

the striker spring is STRONG

Is it just the striker sping giving resistance. most people accustomed to sporting rifles think that an enfield has a problem the first time they use one. I am not saying that is the case here. But I did buy a "broken" p14 from a guy for just this reason.

ammo

Is this new factory ammunition or is it reloaded ammunition?

Have you fired this rifle before, or is it new to you?

Check the chamber very carefully. If the neck broke off a previous case, it could be jammed in the throat.

... Use the eyeball mark 1 to take a look....

Where would I get one of those? I think I have Mk II Eyes.

Would the bolt close when empty? It's my understanding it shouldn't if bolt head isn't threaded on ...My first .303 experience was similar. I learned on the 'ol Mauser that cocks on open. Seemed weird to have to "press" a live shell in...now I know, it's par for the course.

Played massed {aka smashed} bands opening ceremony at the Champion Supreme {N.A.} games held at Maxville Ontario of all places. Quite literally several hundred pipes 200-300 in my estimation. That made the hair on the back of MY neck stand up when we "struck up" then we counter marched back through ranks( and this is why we call it smashed bands) F..ing chaos:eek:...Drones bashing into one another, left handed pipers, not enough room! A guy in front of me to my right must have thought to himself F IT! because he stopped playing and pulled his pipes in front of him holding them like his first born:D. The crowd however {apparently Drum Major as well} were oblivious to this and by all accounts loved the show

There is no sound on earth as truly soul stirring as the song of the Ladies from Hell (with the possible exception of the order -"fix bayonets" ) if you can combine the 2 - it's a very powerful experience.
