303 British Light Plinking Bullets

Have you tried these and what sort of accuracy do you get ?

I have tried them with Varget, the rifle I tried them in was slugged at .312. They were light loads for "plinking", accuracy was not that big of a concern. Basically hitting paper at 50 yds with decent repetition, groups opened waaaaay up at 100yds. Only used them to lighten recoil up for a friends son's introduction to Enfields.

Did someone say light loads in the .303 British...............

Use trail boss starting with the 70% rule and work up.
IMR® TRAIL BOSS® REDUCED LOADS

Or use SR4759 the Speer #9 manual list 16.0 as a starting load and 20.0 as a maximum load with a 100 grain bullet.

NOTE: A reduced load using the sams SR4759 powder and a 150 grain bullet is 21 grains for the start load and 25.0 for the max.

I use 18 grains of SR4759 and the 100 grain bullet to fireform my cases using a rubber o-ring around the rim.

There after just neck size only and let the case headspace on the shoulder and not the rim for maximum case life.

When the cases start getting a little tight to chamber you can use a case forming and trim die as a shoulder bump die to push the shoulder back .001 or .002 for easy chambering.

NOTE: Above is the case forming die and my little finger is hold the fired case from falling out of the die. Meaning this die will only touch the shoulder of the case and not the body of the case or neck.

P.S. I don't know why I'm giving you Canadians all this information after beating both our American Hockey teams in the Olympics and dumping "ALL" your snow here in the lower 48. :bangHead: I hope all your Canadian beer goes flat.

You do realize you now HAVE to keep Justin Beiber?!

Now that was a funny comeback................

BigEdP51: Really enjoy your graphics. If you host a workshop I will come. Sorry to tell you that we retained a whopping big pile of the white stuff in Northern ON. Maybe my boat will float in my harbour this summer. Used to take my neighbor's 23 foot cabin cruiser. Last summer a 14' aluminum had to be dragged over the entrance.

Good stuff there biged.
.303 British, that oh so 'Canadian Culture Cartridge' ... is best enjoyed from a snowdrift with Bieber squeeking nearby. Glad indeed we be, to export the finest of all possible environments to our American pals.

I've had great results using the Horn. 32 cal. 71 gr FMJ's and 5 or 6 grains of most any shotgun powder. 700x is awesome, but just use whatever you've got laying around.
The FMJ's are head shot accurate out to 30+ yds, and being subsonic solids, they anchor small game without blowing yer dinner to smithereens.
A magnum primer, and maybe a tuft of kapok to hold powder down on primer, may help tune loads to your guns preference.

Always a Great source of Great Information. Many Thanks !!! Sorry about the Hockey Games ;) Just found this, my Speer #10 manual lists a 100 gr. .308 bullet for the 303 Brit. I suppose the Hornady's 123gr. V-Max .310 should work as well. Lyman's 49th manual lists a 125 gr.Sierra .311 bullet along with a few loads that I have powder for. :D I just heard there is a Siberian Express heading down your way Monday or Thuesday. Better get your "Long Johns" out. ;) Going to get COLD

Another light load possibility and one I use is a 185gr cast with Unique or Trail Boss.
Yes, for their efforts in the game with us, they win Justin Beiber. And for efforts in the bronze, they win Rob Ford as a consolation prize.;) Keep the snow as a gift. :confused:Our flat beer, U.S. beer, same thingLaugh2.

Picked up some 100gr XTP bullets today, I can't wait to put some together. Out of town though and have to go through the pistol powders when I get home. I might need some help to nail down a load. I think I have some Unique??? Here's hoping!

Sierra also makes a 125 gr .311 game king. I used them in a 7.62x39 and they worked well. However a lot of 303 do not really like light bullets but it isn't a big expense to try them out.
