.303 British Mk 7 ammo available in Canada ?

All the stocks are dried up long ago. The days of cheap Surplus .303, and I guess any surplus .303 are long gone. If you do find some, expect to pay collecters price for it. The last place I saw selling surplus .303 was P&S Militaria, but I just checked and its not listed anymore. But they do have new production Privi Partisan ammo for 18 a box which is still 5 bucks cheaper then commercial ammo from crappy tire or wally mart.

I think one of the dealers on here, more guns supply or something is bringing in some Bulk Privi FMJBT 174g .303 which should be similar to Mk7, but the post is dated in the mid summer, and its still ot here yet.

If you have the money and the time, you could TRY to get some of the Pakistan ammo out of the US, but almost guaranteed its not approved for import by NRCAN. From what I read from numerous sources its crap, corrosive and looks like it was stored poorly as people were getting lots of misfires/hangfires.

Start reloading of you want large quantities of ammo for cheap.

You may occasionally run into finds like this, from old fellows who hoarded it up back when it was available, but it has only happened 2 times for me in many years. Before anyone asks, I'm not selling any, Not a single round! SORRY! I sold a case and a half off, of the last batch I found and it took me almost 3 years to find any quantity like this. I didn't think I'd ever find any again to tell you the truth. It is pretty scarce now. This will keep me and my family shooting for quite a while and give us a huge amount of once fired brass to reload for many years as well.

Damn, I wish I could find half of that. Hell I wish I could find 1 crate.

I think I might buy a crate of that Privi stuff if it ever lands. I heard its good brass, and I will have some decent ammo for general target shooting.

I can't figure out why no one has brought in a huge bulk load of either Prvi or S&B - it should sell fairly quickly, the last case load deal I saw was a couple of years ago on Rem-UMC, it was about $800/1000 rounds. Hell, I'd go for bulk bullets from either one.

Partizan makes good reloading brass: no base-expansion issues unless your chamber is scary out-of-spec.

No real tricks to reloading .303, either. Keep your brass trimmed to length, lube the insides of necks before sizing, seat long, stay with flatbase bullets if you have Enfield rifling and drop down to about 2250 with a 180 for best accuracy and longest brass life. Brass will last and last, barrel will sustain VERY little wear and you'll hit what you're aiming at.

Have fun!

Smellie,

I must say that I am delighted to see you on this thread. Maybe it's time to seize the opportunity to ask you one question ... or three ?

And the questions are : why should we stay with flat base bullets for reloading the .303 British ? why not use HPBT (174 gr.) bullets from Sierra or Hornady ? Enfield rifling is so unhappy with a steady diet of HPBT bullets ?

My rifle is a No 4 Mk 2 and I would like to be able to use the graduations on the backsight (Mk 1) just like if I was shooting true .303 British Mk 7 ammo ?
It is not a hunting rifle, rather a "target" rifle. Am I daydreaming ?

Newbie questions - yes, I know.

TIA
