.303 British - What ammo for hunting?

Ordered them. What a hell of a slug!
Here they are compared to a steel cored milsurp bullet pulled from Mosin ammo.
I am hoping to accelerate them to the required 2200 fps, but for that I may have to buy a 91/30 instead of my M44 carbine.

Federal "Power Shock" with 180gr Speer Hot-Cor SPs. Works well, very accurate in my rifle, and I don't shoot enough .303 to bother reloading it at present. I also have some of the predecessor "Classic" 180gr loads with Sierra Pro-Hunter SPs that shoots as well & to the same POI over hunting distances, that I use for sight verification and occasional practice with the rifle, and that I may try it on coyotes. I don't know that there's really a major difference between the bullets in performance on deer - I'm just very pleased with the Speers in general and I'd expect better penetration if I ever use them on moose.

I also carry a few grouse loads of a #0 buck shot over a .22LR case-full of WW231 (3.6gr??) in an unsized once-fired case. I suspect #00 buck might work better if I had a looser chamber, but #0 works fine in this one.

p.s. I mostly shoot front-stuffers now, so almost every shot is a handload, of sorts.

so which ones are considered corrosive??

I just got a whole bunch of PRVI PARTIZAN and Im worried a bit, havent shot anything but remi and win made ammo out of my enfield so far

btw, does anyone else beside winchester makes conical rounds insted of round nose??

you should just send all that Prvi Partizan to me :D

oh save the brass, I found it fairly good for reloading, I wish I had more

for $17 a box, I dont think Im sendign anything to 'berta :D
I plan on reloading in near future so most of my ammo is just brass with rounds already in it, now if I could just decide how much brass do I need:D

Winchester Powerpoint 180gr CXP3 !

Likewise - those Winchester PowerPoint's in 303 British have handily killed everything The Wife(tm) or I ever shot with em at any range we could hit them from, which is a pretty good list of stuff that runs the gambit from grouses to elks, with deers and bears and what-not in between the two in size class. The only critter I ever shot with a different load out of a 303 (a medium size mule deer with handloaded Sierra 180 at 2450FPS) made me wish like heck I'd stuck to the Winchester's (shot him 3 times broadsideat approx 30 yards, 3 expansion failures, and then he ran off to die slow. I got him (and put all three bullets through both lungs I found out), but I was really not a happy guy with my bullets that day).

The 180grCXP3 will easily blow a 3" hole through a buck at 100yd. Most deer dropped so fast they don't know they're dead yet.
I also put a cow moose down with a Win.180gr sp . At aprx. 170yd , she folded on the spot . That shot was a passthrough as well but that thick hide didn't have the "blowout" I see on deer. I didn't relize the bullet went through her until we fieldressed her out ...Her vitals were liquidfied ...

I found the WinCXP3 are very comparable , at the range , to decent milsurp fodder ... practice puts meat on the table.

"Back in the day" , Imperial made great hunting ammo until they closed shop.
They also made 215gr SP ammo . I still have some kicking around here somewhere.

I'll treat all ammo as if it is corrosive and cleanup ASAP after shooting .

I have shot several deer over the past few years using a 150gr Hornady Spire Point over 43.0 grs of Varget.

Brass about 100 pieces, all the same headstamp should be a good start. :D

I have aproximately 350 IVI milspec and 100 nny (privi partizan) that I use. I gave away a big pile of winchester/federal/imperial etc... when I got the IVI :D

the IVI I load with 174grn Hornady round nose for hunting in the bush, and the nny gets 180grn speer PSP, for longer range shooting, but I'm thinking of moving to 150grn for open country, and general plinking.
