I have a 300 win mag built from a P14. Decades ago I bought some .311 speer 200 gr grand slams, which gave excellent accuracy. In a trade I wound up with 200 215 gr bullets, RN with a long ogive to a samm er round nose. I got to thinkin I should work up a load, so to be safe I got the micrometer, and they were .310" diameter. I wondered for a while if the little bit smaller would comprimise accuracy. I have some woodleigh bullets as well. They measured the full .311". So I went and got an old grand slam and measured it, and it is .310" also. This raised my expectations for the 215 gr. I will give them a try. I moly coat, and my prediction is 2900 fps. I will come back and comment how they did.

What is the groove diameter on your P-14?

If its chamber is that of a .300 Winchester magnum, but your barrel is an original .303 barrel, it sounds like your rifle is chambered for .303/300 Mag. I remember reading about it years ago in an Ellwood Epps catalogue from the early '60's, but in that case, the cartridge was a .308 Norma Magnum, albeit necked for .310/.311" bullets.

yes, it is 303/300 win mag. I got a new old stock military barrel, and got
Bevon King to chamber it. It was of course a bit of work to get it to feed. With the 200 gr speer grand slams, it was deadly accurate. I do not use it much, as I do not hunt much anymore. You need to get a draw around here to get a moose. My draw results have not been good. And because it is pretty brushy around here, a 6.5x55 with 160 gr bullets will kill whatever comes down the trail. It has the full length barrel and puts up 2950 with moly coated 200 gr bullets without difficulty. It would be a spectacular still hunting rifle, you could cover a large area. It is a cool rifle, and it speaks with authority. I just loaded it with regular 300 win mag dies, the extra .002 of the bullets had no effect.
