303 gets it done

As happy as I am that he downed that moose, it was kind of an irresponsible shot (the guy even admits he thought he couldn't make it)...

That distance, with open sights, and being winded from running, at the top of a windy hill... Mmm, dunno...

And then they sit there in amazment after it tumbles, letting it roll & kick itself to death instead of heading over to finish it off humanely.

:yingyang: Mixed feelin's 'bout d'at d'ere, b'ye...

Buddy has really good bolt control on that old rifle.

Just "Snap, SNAP" and it's reloaded.

Two hundred for a Moose? Newfoundland Moose are as big as houses. Good shot.

Don't think that one took much finishing; he was dead when he piled up.

I was thinking he was 150 yards tops. That is right on back of my house. In an old burnt out (forest fire) cut over. There are some very large moose there.

Centre of Mass normally but that moose was angled a touch. What do you figure... 300m max? Not too far in my books however I am quite confident running open sights.

Moose can be dead and still soak up a lot before they drop.

Friend of mine took the bottom off the heart on one; it still made 50 yards.

I like the way the old fella just sits calmly on the stump and has a drink and a smoke: "seen a few of dem before boys".

With that landscape, you'd want to be sure that you had a landmark to mark where the moose went down. Especially at dusk when it could be tough to find.
