I've been reading an article in an older British shooting magazine about .303 Lee-Enfield target handguns. An interesting conversion. The buttstock is replaced with a pistol grip attached with a bolt just like the buttstock. The pistols were all scoped and the barrels were various lengths. Looks like fun. Anyone ever see these?

Sounds interesting. I'm currently shooting 32 cal pistol bullets with a reduced load, using TrailBoss powder, so I can see where this would be quite possible.
Got a link for your article?

I don't have link to connect to...its an article in an older British magazine...1970's I think....but it has color photos...when I go into the office tomorrow I'll try to scan it somehow...

It really isn't much of an article. It just says that these pistols are made on a custom order basis by Eagle Weapons Systems Ltd. in England (apparently no longer in business) and that they are for long range pistol shooting. And there is a single page with two photos. Here are some quick photos of the magazine:

Thank-you! That was a very interesting read. I love the .303 Enfield, as I learned to shoot with them in air cadets. Thanks for sharing.

So I have a question regarding this build. The ones shown in the posted article are a no brainer and should be simple to build. pistol grip will be the toughest part.
The one shown in the youtube video however has me scratching my head. The pistol grip handle is mounted where the magazine should be and then the trigger is ahead of that again! What kind of Enfield action did they build this on? I'm beginning to think it doesn't look like an Enfield even if it is 303 British?

It looks like a standard action, with the butt stock removed and a pistol grip bolted in its place. Looks like an easy build.

I find rifle calibre pistols curious. The xcr-m 308 pistol comes to mind. Don't you require a certain amount of barrel length to get the most out of the round? Burn time to achieve fps at muzzle. Can/how does one predict the loss of muzzle velosity accurately enough to be effective at long range (assuming one is competitive pistol shooting vs cqb intent)? Is it predictable? Are there charts or calculators that address barrel length? Is it trial and error? Custom loads?
C.
