Hey guys,
Just wondering if people would be so kind as to post their favourite .303 loads?

My Hornady 150GR and 174GR bullets just showed up and I'm anxious to start my Very First batch!

Any of you guys that reload, have an enfield with a .313" bore And use hornady bullets, I'm especially interested to hear about your loads and sucess!.

Cheers,
Wally.

40 grains of IMR 4895 with 150 gr. spitzer is close to some military I tried.
(Mil was 2348 fps average, my reloads had a lot of spread because of mixed brass giving pressure variations, average was about 2340 fps.)

Same powder load with a 180 grain spitzer is an excellent hunting round.

I really haven't done much for reloading for my 303, just some light loads to do a rough sighting in and fireforming brass. Some of what I shot was 174gr Greek surplus FMJ, which almost shoots minute of barn. I found out my rifle has a very long throat, seating 174gr Hornady roundnose over 37gr IMR 4895 (starting load) at the right length gets 5 rounds under 3" offhand at 50 yds. I think thats a good start considering I was only trying to fireform some brass.

Edit: bore on this rifle is 0.313"

... Good "question" ! I've just got a box of the Hornady 174 (FMJ/BT) and was wondering about the most accurate load to start with, for a No.3 Up to this time I've been using 4895 powder (40 grains) behind 180 grain spitzers, and some RN, both with less than stellar accuracy ! Mixed brass doesn't help either ! With the 174 Hornady, hopefully I can duplicate the Military load( or even a bit lighter!) and produce decent groups ! ..... David K.

I use IMR 4064, I got good groups with 180 Rem with 42grs.That might be max,so work up. They are only .3105. In my P-14 that was 2200f/s.That's the velocity of factory Winchester, too.

Good to know about the brass. I Have a mix of Winchester, Federal, Remington, Eastern Euorpean stuff, Military brass etc...

The bullets I have are the 150GR Soft point Spitzer #3120 and the 174GR soft point Round nose #3130

How do you determine throat length what what is a good way to set it up? I don't have time to read steve's page right now but I will later. Feel free to post an answer or just tell me where to read :D

Cheers,
Wally

P.S. I'll post a range report after I get some loads through the Rifle.
