.303 reloading (newb)

Now for my next question, where can bullet's be purchased for a .303?

I can't find any websites that have this for sale. Or maybe a local store anywhere in the greater London, ON area?

303 British is a very bad cartridge to start reloading with, unless you use new brass and still your case life will be very short. The 303 Brit. case is notorious for head separation because most LEE Enfilelds have long chambers which cause the brass to stretch to the point of head separation, if you use an Enfield Pattern 14 then the odds are in your favour because the chambers are better on those..

LeBaron's in Toronto/Mississauga has them listed on their website. Not sure where you are in Ontario, of course. All the major bullet manufacturers make them, although the choice is not nearly as good for, say, .30 cal.

While I agree with BulletCaster's concerns about overly-long Lee-Enfield chambers, they're not all bad and even with the bad ones, you can get multiple reloads from the brass. You do need to keep an eye on your brass - www.youtube.com/watch?v=YE0A5IsR1dA is a good vid showing head separation warning signs and how to use a feeler to check.

One thing he didn't show is the use of a bent paperclip as a feeler. He uses a dental tool or something, but you can unfold a paperclip, bend the end 1/8" or so at right angles and use that.

You can't go wrong with good equipment. The lee loaders will produce OK ammo from what I have heard but it would be cheaper in in long run to buy the good stuff right of the bat. One of your site sponsors " Tradex " has Priv Partizan brass $60 for 100 also several different Hornady bullet styles. I've been very happy with their service. Jack

I know reloading may sound complicated. All your answers are in any of the reloading manuals that are on the market. Buy one and read it from front to back. As far as die set-up and use, all the information is included in the box when you buy them.

I've tried reading up on this forum and watching videos on u-tube. I also went to a friends place to be shown how to reload... But I have to tell you, start by following the above paragraphe and you'll have a better general understanding.

Reloading is what you make of it. It can be really simple to make a good hunting round or you can get in some pretty complicated stuff if you get into precision reloading.

So if I only plan to use/reuse brass fired from a .303 british I could go with the Lee loader? And I could still reload factory ammo brass that I have already fired?

If so I may go with this route first do to the cheaper startup cost since I will only be reloading for the same gun at this time.

A lot of us started with Lee Loaders and they work. But almost everyone who stays with reloading moves up to a press and dies. You can get a set of dies for the price of a Lee Loader. If you don't want to buy a top quality press right away buy a Lee hand press or a basic Lee C press (either costs about $35).

With .303 B you should only neck size anyway or your cases will soon stretch and separate.
