Hello fellow gun nutz; I've got a model 1899,303cal.savage and an ancient box of shells {soft point} that I just can't bring myself to shoot down range.
I've heard that a 303 british can be re-sized and trimmed to a savage round. Can some one enlighten me as to how this is best done? Bearing in mind that I haven't reloaded before and the proceedure and tooling will all be new to me.{be ready for lots of stupid questions!!}

Cheers!

P.S. YEA Big D it's me :-}

"...heard that a 303 British can be..." Too big. It can be done, but it takes a great deal of altering involving tools you likely don't have. The rim has to be turned down for one. It can be made out of .220 Swift and .307 Winchester brass, but you need the forming dies. .303 Savage dies will likely be a special order thing. Redding makes 'em.
This is from another forum. The guy says to use new Remington brass.
"All you need to make the transition from 220 Swift to 303 Savage is a set of 303 Savage full length dies, an intemediate size expanding neck sizer and a case trimmer to shorten the looong neck when the 220 Swift is forced through the full length sizing die."

New brass is pricey stuff. Where you are matters somewhat. Shooter's Choice, in Waterloo, Ontario, lists Bertram brass at $68.95 per 20. Norma was making it, but it doesn't appear on their site now.
Uses a .308" bullet.
I have data. E-Mail me and I'll send it to you. toheir@hotmail.com

Jamison International makes 303 sav brass, and will ship to Canada. I was speaking to them just last week. Cost is $34.80US for a bag of 20
Apparently, 30-30 win load data can be used for 303 sav. You might want to confirm this first though, just to be safe.
