.303 Savage

I have made them from 303 Brit, but you need a lathe and rudimentary machining skills to make them.

- take 303 Savage dies and size the 303 Brit brass down to the web (about 1/4" from the rim) - don't force it!
- mount in a lathe and reduce the rim diameter to about 0.510" and the web diameter (where it now bulges) to about 0.445", or until it will both fit into the die, and chamber in the gun.
- trim to length

If you compare base dia of the 303s to a 30-30 you will see the 30-30 is only 3 thou or so smaller. It is not safe to do repeated reloads useing 30-30 cases, but for yrs now I have used plentiful 30-30 pick-up brass for hunting. Simply run it thru the 30-30 die, trim & load. I load close to max & discard once fired brass. Actually I prefer to step on them or crush them if I can find them after shooting.
Of course for litigation sake I would strongly recommend you not do this ;)

Someone at the range told me he used 30-30 and just FL Resize them with alot of lube with 303 sav. dies, and then just trim the lenght.

I haven't tried it myself... yet

The 30-30 brass I have is more like 20 thou undersized. That having been said, if pressure is kept reasonable, although unsightly, the bulge that will form in 30-30 brass is not unsafe for 2-3 firings. It expands once, and is then worked much less on subsequent firings depending on your dies and chamber.

Senior's idea is a good one, if you are happy with brass you can use once or twice.

Yes my typing mistake, it's about 20 tou.
I still would not recommend fireing twice.
I mean these are hunting guns, no need to shoot them that much.
I load them once & turf them.
