.303 savage

Hey guys. Just got my grandfathers .303 savage 99. Ran the serial number and found that it was made in 1913. But after doing more research it looks like I'm going to have a hard time finding ammunition for it. Is there anybody out there that reloads for a .303 savage and what a guy has to do so I can get his gun shooting?
 
I have the same problem after receiving my great grandfathers .303 savage 99. I have managed to find older boxs of ammo at some of the local gun shows in my area.
 
I have the same gun as you, but I believe mine is a 1912. There were a few places with .303 savage ammo for sale, very expensive but it was out there when I was looking.
 
It is not hard to do. I know I have done it in the past. It is not a real 303 but rather a 30 caliber gun. I am quite sure I still have the dies kicking around.

Still lots of us that shoot and reload for the 303Sav...if all you lads weren't so far away I'd fix you up.
I have an ample supply of brass and factory ammo I've horded over the years
My last experiment used 150gr Nosler ballistic tips...I had to single feed them because the tip made them too long for the mag but they proved accurate even for a fella that doesn't look so good anymore...using open sights...

As mentioned, check out the local gun shows and the equipment exchange in the ammo section. I saw a box on the EE just a while ago, and I still see it at the gun shows locally.
 
"...reloads for a .303 Savage ..." That'll be the only way you'll be shooting it. I think Epp's carries brass. Dies will likely be a special order thing and won't be cheap. Bullets are standard .308". The only thing that's easy. I'm pretty sure I have data. Not with me though. On-line at the friggin' library these days. I'll look and post it it tomorrow. Assuming I remember.

I only have a curiosity of this now rare round, but did some reading and found on another forum mention that Ellwood Epps experimented with wildcats based on the 303savage. Obviously things have changed since the first days of that sporting goods store, but getting proper brass is superior than reforming(inadequately at worst, or with much effort at best) 303Brit, 30-30win, 30-40Krag, 220Swift etc... I have a solitary case sitting on my reloading bench - Over the years I have come into posession of some less than common cases. It occured to me that I should post pictures of some of them.
 
30-30 ammo works fine in a 303 Savage rifle, much to the dismay of the spinners here that post on subjects they have no clue about.

I'am sure they will be along shortly to tell anyone that will listen that it can't be done.

When Budget Shooter supply re-opens at the start of Sep. send Henry an email he has lots of the 303 savage loaded ammo in stock
