hi folks i got a (already, but not very well Sportsterized) 303 hey it was free!
but it shoots good + has a scope mounted. i wanted to refinish the stock and am not sure what to do about the butt plate. somebody has already sanded the butt a little bit too small on one side of the butt plate leaving a metal ridge.
would i be better off to
file down the butt plate,
try to build up the stock ( i dont even know if this can be done)
or install a recoil pad ( if so does any one know of a make that will fit)

i know ct sell slip on pads but i would prefer the screw mounted type

if you're going to put a scope on the 303, use an ati stock as they have the raised cheek area on the stock which brings your eye more or less level with the scope. the ram line stock follows the original military contours and doesn't have this feature. enjoy your 303; it's a great rifle

i was thinking along the new stock line, but i am going to keep it as plan B.
i have never refinished a stock this bad before so i figured what the hell it might be worth the experience.
ok, so where can i order a ramline recoil pad from, and how do you know what size to order.
or are they the type that i have read about, that you sand down to match the butt

Ramline makes synthetic stocks. I think he's referring to the stock because i've seen them at wholesale sports at that price.

I put an ATI stock on my 303 it had been poorly sporterized as well. I'm 6'4" and I find for comfort. the length of pull on the originals are way to short for me It's not an expensive stock but it's well made. I shoot my enfield way more since I put it on IMO.

on the other hand how badly over sanded is the buttstock? If it's not too terrible is there the possiblity of ligthly grinding the buttplate to narrow it enough to make it flush with the buttstock again? just a thought.
