Hello Everyone,

I am interested in acquiring a small quantity of .303 surplus ammunition. Does anyone have some or where could I get some, and how much does it cost approximately?

I do not have a set up for reloading, and am specifically looking for surplus ammo. I know many stocks have "dried up", but that's because SOMEONE bought them.

I would very much like to get some, and am just a student who loves to shoot this cartridge (and at 27.00 a box of 20, it is not reasonable to buy Winchester)

Thank you,
Drach

If you think the winchester is overpriced, your not gonna like the surplus stuff. The people who do have it, are gonna want a good amount of coin for it, were talking about 1$ a round on average. Its more then just ammo now, its gone to a collectors status due to the rarity.

I looked into it when i first started shooting. And I realized i would be getting 60+ year old ammo at almost the same cost of new.

My love for the .303 - and the sticker-shock of the price :( - is pretty much what "pushed me over the edge" into reloading....

It's also what's making me look for a .30-06 milsurp...:D

.303 surplus ammunition is virtually gone. Try the gun shows though. You might find a box or two, but it won't be cheap. Stay away from Indian or Pakistani made stuff.
"...would be getting 60+ year old ammo..." Some of it is better than new stuff. Best .303 I've ever shot was 1944 vintage DA on a CF range, in the early 80's. It was far better than the IVI crap we got later. Some twit decided the DA should be destroyed.

Well, I had a box of 1942 Canadian DA made boxer primed Mk.VII ammo, and I shot it down to 2 rounds. For a box of 40 it cost me 40 bucks. I'd still rather pay 40 bucks for 40, then 28 for 20. So, does anyone have any?

Btw, it was some of the best ammo I ever shot

Call Del Selins in Vernon BC, they have loose 303 surplus ammo (not sure of make) in bags of 50 for about $48 I believe. Not sure if its worth it in the end to pay for shipping, but depends on how keen you are to have surplus stuff.

Even if a person isn't fully set up for reloading, you can still produce some pretty good quality .303 Br handloads using a Lee Loader. One nice thing about them is that your brass will be necksized, rather than FL re-sized-a good thing for a .303. Save your boxer primed brass and you will recoup a fairly small outlay for a LL in a short period of time. Google "lee loader" and have a look at what comes up.

There's lots out there. Garage sales are great too, I always ask if they have any guns or ammo they're getting rid of.

My Dad gave me a bunch for Christmas a couple years ago to go with the rest of my stash. Ignore the 7.62 NATO.:)
