I use 444 brass with no problem.
But I shoot mainly slugs and cast bullets with my .410. I shoot .380 wadcutters, .40 caliber semi-wads, .395 lead balls, plus buckshot.
Buy a lee universal decapper for $12 to deprime ANY brass you have. Use large pistol primers, an oversize overpowder wad and an oversize fiber filler wad(.430), then use an oversize(.450) overhot wad over your shot. You can buy oversize wads cheap from 'Track of the Wolf' in the States.
When I use slugs I just put a drop of Elmers glue on the top wad and drop my projectile on top, then spin them around to spread the glue. They usually stay stuck.
I use 15grs. of 4227 and have had good results IF you get a good seal in your .444 cartridge with your oversize wads. I find I get a good seal if I stagger overpowder wads and fiber wads.
I've put a .40 caliber cast bullet through 6 inches of firewood with this load. It might go sideways, but it still goes through. The most accurate loads are the .395 round balls, but shooting big cast bullets out of a .410 is like having a mini-45-70.
In case your wondering, I'm shooting all of these loads out of a 70 year old, full choke, single shot, 'Bay State' H&R shotgun.
My friends love shooting it too. It's light, doesn't kick much, and is fun.
