303 truck gun

I like that strap on leather cheek piece -did you make that yourself or is it a aftermarket accessory? What scope do you have on it?-looks like an old 2 1/2 X weaver[ideal for close range]

Thats a leather cheekpiece for the M1 Garand .
I also use it on my SKS.

The reason I liked the no.4 was the peep site-but that P14 Enfield fills the bill nicely.

The barrel is in awesome condition as well, and I like how the sights are well protected.

I bought it about 3 or 4 years back from Johnsons hardware in Nanaimo a week before they closed for good. IIRC I paid $90 for it and he handed me a bag of .303 hunting ammo if mixed variety to go with it for free. :D

Your project makes good sense to me. I cannot use open sights at all, but the peep set up on a #4 still works. I suggest no scope becasue a scope can get knocked out of zero. Your challenge will be getting an elevation zero withthe Tru Glo sights using the fixed rear big peep.

I have a very nice savage 219 30/30 with peep sights I couldn't shoot anymore because I couldn't focus on the front sight ,so before I sold it,I thought I'd try installing a tru glo firesight and voila'-it worked -I just tapped out the existing sight and tapped in the new sight-I CAN see it! and recommend it as an option for anyone with a similar problem.Yes,these are advantages to not having a scope-the rifle carries better, and you don't have to worry about the scope getting knocked about when it is carried behind the seat in a pickup truck
