.303 British only!!!!!!!!!! There is a .303 Savage but like I said .303 British in the Lee Enfield.

Like Winchester 1897 said .303 british only. If you come across .303 savage it looks remarkably like a 30/30 Winshester round but not the same. Significant difference between the .303 british and .303 Savage.

If you are fortunate enough to come across .303 Savage at a good price, it is worth at least $50 a box.
If your rifle is in good condition any modern commercial .303 British ammunition - Winchester, or any other make - will be just fine.

rma, you did the very best thing you could ever do, and that's ask the question here on CGN. There's no such thing as a 'dumb' question, so don't ever be afraid of asking anything here. Milsurps especially, may not be stamped anywhere for what they are chambered for. .303 British, .303 Savage, .300 Savage, it can get confusing. Welcome aboard, but I've got bad news for you. Your wallet will soon be empty, and you'll develop carpal tunnel syndrome from surfing CGN for all the good info here!

Balls. More than half of them have some small headspace issue. If you're just going to fire factory ammo on a single use, not saving the brass for reloading, the vast majority of Lee Enfields are just fine, headspace and all.

The Winchester stuff I cronyed went slow out of my P-14,e.g. low pressure.So it would be safe. CIL use to load the 303 brisk.
