Just cast up a few of these Lee 314-90gr SWC meant for .32S&W long

Loaded one up with 3.0gr of W231 as it's the fastest burning powder I have. Looks too funny. We ll see how this fires on the weekend.

I shoot that boolit in 7.62x54R,308 and 7.5 Swiss.Great and very accurate plinker with irons up to 50 yrd.

Beats many 22LR at that range.

I hope someone, someday makes longer version of it.It would fly much better up to 100 yrd.

What powder are you using? I d like to try trail boss but I don't have any right now.

I don't have a chrony and I will check what size they are this evening. These are made of range scrap which is mostly .22lr. So it will be pretty soft. Right now my concern is unburnt powder in a case that big and charge that small. Uneven ignition.

Bullet weighed in at 93gr

Using a dial caliper I got .313 on the micro bands and .314 on the large bands on top and bottom. My long branch has a bore of .3145 according to a slug and a CMM machine. So not sure if accuracy will be as good as I d like

Huge jump! Lol I might try seating it further out of the neck to close the gap. I also just ordered some trail boss that might help too.

I've used those bullets quite a bit with 303B, 7.62x54R, and even some 308 loads. I find they are so short I get feeding problems. In my P14 and Mosin they need to be guided into the chamber with my fingers because they have a tendency so just slam into the back face of the barrel. I use pure WW, water dropped, and they mic at .3145-.3150" with a vernier micrometer for me.

They've never shot well for me with pistol or shotgun powders, with or without fillers. They seem to work okay with Trail Boss. Maybe the load density helps with consistency?

Load density was my biggest concern. I was reading 3.0gr of fast burning pistol powder but that is a REALLY tiny charge for a case that big. I'm worried about good powder ignition . Trail boss should fill the case better

It is common in 357mag and 45-70 in my experience. Usually with round balls.
You want to make sure there is no gap between the bullets and load for the combined total weight if you're using cast bullet data.

In a 45-70 with triple round balls, you'll often get patterns the size of your palm at 25yds. With bullets instead of round balls it could be much better, I don't know.

I use Red Dot/Promo.Usualy about 6-7 Gr does the trick.I'm pretty sure similar charge of any shotgun type, flaky powder will do the same.
I tried 2400-no joy and lots of soot.I tried Win WSF-awesome results.

2 things I noticed when loading this boolit:
-soft alloy makes more accurate boolit. That's mentioned somewhere in Mr.Harris article and it's very true (for me) for all PB boolit.Range scrap is great since it's free and abundant.WW can and should be saved for GC boolits.
-boolit that light shoots better then seated in case as far out as possible. It's tricky at first to figure out how to do it,but once you get it it's great.and they do feed perfect.

Thanks for the input donor. I got a can of trail boss today, so I'm gonna try loading a couple of these rounds with 5.0gr of TB and seat them with half the bands outside the neck. Ideally this would be a fun plinking load at 50 yards. I would try red dot but I don't have any and can't find it. So the fastest I've got is win231

John Wooters had a 45-70 load with 3 stacked balls in a 45-70 .He never published the exact data but cards in between .I have .303 British Gallery Loads data for the Hornady 90gr SWC .314 Red Dot/3.3gr/ 912fps...........AAC-2 3.8gr/822fps .............. Unique /4gr/907fps
