what do you think it would cost to rebarrel a 303 action with a 45/70 bbl.could this be done for $500 bucks including the purchase of the action.have seen a couple an im interested.

yes its the bolt that i want. theres some nice lever guns in 45/70 . but no bolts. a friends dad had a sporter #1 in 45/70 ruger he could clover leaf 3 shots with it.I realize that 45/70 built on a brit probley wont be that accurate .fat tony i shoot at mvrrc i have seen the gun your talking about.he was shooting 1 to 1.5 " groups with a 300 gr cast bullet .I really think its a cool conversion.

So am I see you out at MVRRC, ;) I got a chance to shoot an FN mauser in .458 American, this gun was custom made with a custom made front sight, williams peep rear, very nice laminate conventional stock, mercury recoil reducer; it was sweet & accurate to shoot and we were shooting some pretty stout *Marlin 1895 equivalent* loads.

The trick will be finding the barrel. And it'll be a custom made barrel. That'll eat most of your $500. Then you'll need to modify the mag and extractor as a minimum. Plus the cost of the receiver. That's the easiest part. There are a lot of beat up No. 4 Rifles around.

yes that was fun .i shot some desent scores for a short barreled hunting rifle.Ed and Peter shot really well with Eds 7mm BR.wasn,t the best day but I had fun.:)

There's a gunsmith in bc who does the conversion. I talked to him about it once. I recall it was 450 bucks for the work, and that included the barrel and one magazine. Some folks who'd done it said good things about him.

But that would still leave you having to pick up an action.
