303Carbine's Yugo M-48 8mm mauser

FWIW, if looking for 8mm hunting rifles, Remington made their "classic" (basically a pre-CDL) in 8mm Mauser not too long ago - 2003 maybe? Shouldn't be too hard to find one.

Also ALOT of sportered Mausers already out there that are useable, theough the Yugos do have great bores.

I think if I really wanted an 8mm hunting rifle bad, I'd custom build one from an older sporter, or rebarrel a Ruger M77MkII or Winchester Model 70.

But I'm picky like that ;)

The 8mm should be a very capable hunting round IF you load it to reasonable European spec and avoid the aneamic lawyer-load used in Remchester offerings. They load over-light for liability reasons in case you;re stupid enough to fire it in one of the Gewehr 1888 Commission rifles that has a .318 J bore... some people's kids, huh? lol...

Good thing the powers that be never made me a mod, or this thread would have been SOOOOO locked after about post No. 7 or 8 ;)

Can we all go back to being friends now?

Thought about it.;) But it did stay pretty civil for this type of discussion.

No name calling that I saw anyway.:)

To me milsurp means military surplus, as in the rifle was once a military rifle, and that's the end of it, no mention of "collecting" or any other such B.S. what you do with it is your own business.... Nice rifle btw.

CLAVEN 2;
I could not agree more, I recall paying $9.95 for my first No-4 rifle,new in the grease.... Of course we all know they have not increased in the last few years....
As for the M-48 rifles, yes we sold many tens of thousands into the North American market, the minty ones are now commanding a 20%-%30 premium over what we sold them for just a couple of years ago....
We all know that the $99.Garands never grew in value....

Oh these young collectors are so innocent

Hmmmmm ..... all things aside I feel we under appreciate the modder/bubba who customizes his/her rifle :D I mean when you really look at things... sure there might have been millions of mausers/enfields produced but after the mods the remaining ones in mint shape are that much more valuable. Scarcity defines value. Hell i bought my 1952 #4 longbranch for a measly $35-:) a few more years of 'bubba'ing' I'll be sitting on a fortune !!!

I got my M48 Yugo from Marstars a couple months ago. LOVE IT! If ya wanna put a scope on it get a side mount (replicas are made now) wanna get a bi pod get one that clamps on and can be easily removed to avoid drilling etc. Dont ruin the complete rifles, maybe its just me but I buy Bubba'd enfields and try like hell to restore them with full wood and all. Its like a rescue mission (LOL). Even if the numbers dont match at least they look like they did when they defended us so well in WW1 and WW2. Just I.M.H.O! Besides the rifle you bubba is a lost investment when you tamper with it. Only the accesorries are worth money, sadly the rifle is not anymore because half of it is missing. Like mag cut offs and the original sights.
