Was getting concerned with new season just around the corner in F class shooting.
Took gun to smith Ian and he bore scoped it seem to look okay a little fire cracking at throat.I really don,t know how long these fast twist barrels would last shooting 90gr at 2800fps but thought I would put on new barrel shoot it at Victoria day shoot at Connaught and then put back old barrel. Like Ian said if its shooting well just keep using it.
I am always concerned changeing barrels could get a bad barrel.
The new barrel is same contour as old light strait taper Tru Flite at 30"
I put scope back on rifle same load as I had shot with old barrel last fall
I fired 5 shots cleaning after each and the fired two fouling shots.
Was quite amazed that gun shot only 1" lower amd 3/4" right than old barrel
Ian at VX Systems Ltd did a fine job like always.

So really won,t know how long these fast twist .224 will shoot well, any one else using 1/7 in 223 and have any thoughts

7 fouling and cleaning shots

Like you, I am very conservative on bore life. Nothing worse then having a barrel go south during a match. Been there ONCE and never again.

I am sure that we can get more then 3000rds but why take the chance?

I am even more conservative and stop shooting matches at a much lower rd count. I use these seasoned barrels for practise so if they crap out, no problem.

Compared to the cost of a match and how much shooting we get, barrels are cheap.

6mmBR uses a similar bore/powder ratio and many will start to see a drop around 2000rds.
