I am in the process of compiling the bits and pieces to do a semi custom 30-06. Right now the gunsmith I have spoken to has a 11.25 twist rock creek available. Whith this rifle I had planed on shooting 185-190 VLDs. Acording to the balistic program I have from Brian Litz these bullets should be adiquitly stabalized, But just just make 1.4 stabilaty factor . I was wondering If any one has experience with this twist and these bullets? Will this work for me in reality?

I used the 190's in a 11.25 twist .308 5R barrel with not so great results. They work but only at high velocity. I would really recommend u get a 1:10 twist.

The man you should talk to is komboytch

The only testing I did was a ladder test at 600y. A few of the rounds had hit the target fully sideways. I never tested further because I would rather be comfortable rather than on the line.

Good bullet choice tho. I would keep in that direction if I was u.

I actually have a 1/11.25 twist on my .308.It was originally designed to shoot the US army 173/175 long range ammo.
I too would opt for 1/10 for 190s and up.That's not to say it won't work but that's not what it is optimized for.

My Icon Warlord 308 wear a 1 in 11 and the 175-178gr completly shine here, dont know if the 308 would have the torque to push the ogive up to speed ( 22 inch barrel )... JP.

Thanks for the reply's. I think it can be done but I was hoping to find someone who has actually spun these bullets with this twist successfully. I would normally just go with a 1/10 twist, but the barrell is there and I wouldn't have to wait for one.

I've shot 185-210 Bergers through my .308 1-11.25 5R Rock barrel, and it's wonderful. The higher .30-'06 velocities can only make it better. I'd be all over that tube if I were you.

An 11.25" twist is *definitely* enough to shoot 190s. The SF=1.4 calculation is confirming that (i.e. it says that it is plenty).

Peter's report (11.25/190 winning national championships) confirms that.

carbonrod's report of 11.25" stabilizing 208s confirms that.

mpwolf's post confirms that.

Go ahead and build up the .30-06 with the 11.25" barrel, it'll stabilize those bullets just fine.
