.308 - 168Gr & 8 Gr of Titegroup

That is why the bullets were quiet. Thanks so much for giving me such great information.

I don't know why the bullets were quiet for you. For me, and everyone else I've done it with, .308, .223 and several other calibres went 'crack' at every range from 200 up to 800 yards. As a result, hearing protection was required by range rules. 45-70, otoh, was as you described. More of a whisper and then thunk.

You are, however, still incorrect re: supersonic booms. I look forward to your eventual graceful acknowledgement of same.

I don't know about those sonic booms but my .300 Whisper is very quiet with "subsonic" loads, very accurate, though not as accurate as top end loads, as I believe barrel twist rate plays a bigger part in these light loads. Cast bullets do a better job in this application as they are less expensive and do not get stuck in the barrel as easily as jacketed bullets.

Position sensitive just means that the velocity can change depending on where the powder sits in the case. This is why its beneficial to use a powder that takes up more case volume (i.e. Trailboss).

The Titegroups load is safe, it just won't give you as nice of groups unless your careful to try and keep the powder always in the same position.

A buddy of mine use to to off his load with cream of wheat to case capacity to keep the powder at the primer, work's good.

how do you keep the cream of wheat and powder from mixing? or does it matter?
