Ken Waters in Pet Loads is usually a little on the conservative side with max loads...I am looking for a max load in my 308 for last ditch big bear protection and have some 200gr partitions...he list a load of 49 grains of 760???? this seems WAY over any other loads I have seen listed....has anyone tried this load??? is it a typo??? I'm googling all over and can't find confirmation that this load is safe and I don't want to ruin a gun or shoot away all my expensive bullets lol

Thats a very HOT load - 46-47 would be a NORMAL Hot load ! W748 will give you more Velocity then W760 and you will use a lot less getting there too ! Start with around 40 grs of W748 and work up ! - jmo RJ
You seem to think that you can load the max that the book shows as MAx in THEIR rifle.
In MY rifle, 48 gr is max. I worked up to that.
In YOUR rifle it might be 44 gr or 52 gr. Chamber throats and bore diameters vary a lot.
For max velocity, I suggest your work up with 4895.

Go A Head and load it and if you have a Savage 99 or Win 88 you might have to pry it OPEN ! BETTER back OFF and load up .5 at a time ! The Proper way to do it ! jmo RJ
