.308 ammo for 1000yrds?

At the Second Annual Summerland shoot I shot a wackload of factory ammo.

I was hitting a plastic milk jug sized chunk of wood. At 1,035 yards.

I had Hornady Double Tap ammo. Remington Accutip. Winchester Ballistic Silver Tip. In varying grains from 150 to 178, maybe.

Its do able but expensive.

If you're buying factory ammo, you will need to get a Sierra 175 gr bullet (Federal Match King or Remington) to accurately make it to 1000. The 168 gr match bullets will significantly drop off at 600 yds, and the 150/180 soft points are sh*t and will never make it out that far accurately (consistently).

I have shot wine bottles at 600 yds w/ Federal 180 gr Soft Point bullets, but it was pretty hard. Almost every other bullet hit above/below the target.

Switching to 175 gr match, and every shot hit a bottle
