Ok, SO what can we get for AR-10's as of this moment? Looking for a standard looking AR, no special bells, whistles or anything for now. Was thinking of building to stretch the costs over a larger time period as it. I was looking at the Armalite Ones form wolverine, but it says the US wont export them unless I am law enforcement or military.

So, What do we have available to us?

Call wolverine, they have a lot of ar 10 stuff in stock. I bought everything except my lower from them.

The LMT one from Questar. It is an MRP, so maybe more bells than you want. Also helluva accurate according to the reports.

I would like to start with just building the lower, spread the cost over a few months, and hopefully by spring its done lol. This will allow me to save up, and it will lessen the blow of dishing out over 2K if I spend it over a few smaller payment lol.

I don't know about the lower itself,(I built mine from scratch) but they do have lower internal kits, stocks etc. They also had uppers and bolt carrier groups. Don't use the website, call them and talk to them. they are excellant to deal with, and are an armalight dealer.Everything but the lower receiver came from Wolverine. One other thing, doing it over time is ok, but make sure EVERYTHING is available before you start, because the lower isn't interchangeable with other .308' black rifles and only fits armalite uppers.

That is what is concerning me, that I will get all the lower parts together only to not be able to find an upper.

What else is out their besides armalite?

Remington R-25/DPMS 308 excellent gun. I couldn't be happier with the R-25. I am sure you could get a dealer/site sponsor to do a layaway for you on the R-25.

Another Question or two. What are their for rails for the .308 AR? Also, is their a bullet weight limit? I know in the M-14 168 I think is the heaviest recommended weight and anything heavier can damage the rifle over time.

Well I know the R-25 is made for hunting, so I think it is made with heavier hunting bullets in mind. I use 180 Gr FMJ for plinking and Lapua 308 167Gr HPBT for match.

I've got the LMT 308 MWS, and I can tell you it's a beautiful rifle, albeit a bit pricey. I do believe you'd have to buy it complete though. I got mine from Questar.

Those are nice looking rifles, but ahh, are a little out of my price range lol.

I think I might go ahead and order a stripped lower if wolverine has them. Maybe a parts kit in a few weeks. Ill see what he has price wise.

The POF at Questar looks sweet! it will save a good $800 bones, that seems like a great deal, plus it comes in a 12 inch barrel, great assaulter gun, would buy that if i win the lotto tomorrow amongst many others of course!:D

I am watching this with intrest, I'm planing to build an AR-10 myself when i get the funds. lee enfield, please update if when you find out more info. I'm going to start with a striped lower as well.

I chose a DPMS built Remington R25/ AR 10 as the cheapest way to get into the AR 10 game. Other than the incredibly horrible trigger, and the tacky/soft CAMO paint job, I like my R25. It is NOT as good as the genuine/original AI built Sudanese and Portuguese AR 10s I used to shoot, but it will do.

I've put an aftermarket match trigger in mine, an ACE ARFX stock, and will be stripping the Camo off soon. The Falcon 10X Mildot is also going to be replaced with something BIGGER!!! Also gonna thread the muzzle and put on some kind of short brake.

I spent some time at the range today, and shot about 40 rds out of my Rem R25/AR 10. It shot cheap old ugly Berdan Primed South African 7.62 NATO BALL almost as well [ 2" ] as it did Federal 168 Gr HPBT Match [ 1 1/2"]. 150 GR and 180 Gr soft point hunting loads both went into about 3". All groups were shot fairly rapidly, over a hasty rest, with the barrel getting pretty hot.

I'm still getting used to the trigger, and would really need a bipod and a rear bag to get closer to what the rifle is inherently capable of shooting, but that was good enough for a casual sight in session, for today.

Funny thing is, I've shot several thousand rounds through the OLD Original AR 10s, and they liked 7.62 NATO BALL ammo as well. [ as in one 600 yd 5 shot group with iron sights that you could cover with a 8 1/2" X 11" sheet of paper ]?

Maybe the twist is optimised for the 7.62 NATO bullets???

Any how, don't overlook the Rem R25. One BIG point in the R25's favor is that it takes the new plastic Pmags.
