.308 AR's: Some questions and a small "venting"

I was hoping in the new year to purchase a .308 AR that I could change a few parts on and have it a .308 version of my 20" RRA LAR15NMA4. I know there are many AR-10s in Canada, and I know Wolverine is the Armalite distributor here, so I contacted them about ordering in an AR10A4NM rifle. It had the 20" threaded match barrel I wanted, the forward assist I've seen a few AR10's and variants wanting at times, and it's advertised as 1 MOA accuracy. Unfortunately though the State Dept apparently will not issue export permits for any AR10s.:mad: I know that common sense doesn't seem to factor in to the US State Dept's thoughts on what they will and will not allow exported, but I can't for the life of me figure out why they would not issue export permits for Armalite AR-10s, yet we have the POF, RRA, KAC, and HK .308 AR-ish guns coming through.:confused::mad: Really, WTH is the logic? Okay, venting done.


So, is there another brand out there that I've missed that has the accuracy, a 20" threaded barrel, and a forward assist that is priced closer to the $3000-$4000 area? Thanks in advance for any help.
 
Ok i am no guru but what about the remington R25?

Its 308 , has a bushmaster bloodline , i am not fond of the mossey oak look but duracoat , and a new stock and pistol grip would work, really i have been considering getting into the ar game and these 15s and 25s look good i hear the 15s shoot sub 1/2 moa out of the box....if true what the hey
 
i know the ar's hold the cool factor but to be honest they are not that great i work with one for a bit and found lots of mag problems (hard feeds and double feeds) hard to reload for because of the case stretch and not that accurate i was getting 1.5inch at 300m with 168 hpbt 4round group

i dont mean to ##### about the rifle but just giving a heads up that there are better out there for the price your going to pay but if you want my reload data for a ar10 i have it some were i can give it to you if you get one
and all i have to say is be ready to do a lot of trimming

I just found this if its believable

My first impression at the range with my brand new R-25 was disappointing. My son and I had bought 250 rounds of Brown Bear .308 cartridges to spend and the rifle wouldn’t pop the primer! It just dented the primers. A borrowed M1 fired the Brown Bear cartridges fine, and the R-25 fired American made ammo. The hammer spring seems very weak (anecdotal admittedly). A Remington authorized gunsmith said the hammer won’t work on thicker primers. Remington stated that they purposefully chambered the rifle NOT TO ACCEPT NATO AMMO. Why is it a $1500 rifle can’t fire these rounds?

I've got an R-25 and if you load for a gas gun it's an extremely accurate rifle. And although Chev Ranger seems to feel that 1/2 moa @ 300 meters is crappy from a gas gun...Well. Also it's a DPMS platform. Woodchopper I wanted a 7mm-08 but none here at that time. Mind you I'm happy with my .308. I've also got an R15, it's a Bushmaster and accurate as well.

If you can, get a dpms 308; They are also the ones that build Remington's R-25. I've had much less hassle with the dpms than my Armalite 308 when I owned it. lots of timing related malfunctions. Took a lot of experimenting/work before I got it working reliably, but could never trust the rifle again (which affected my scores, always anticipating a malfunction). Eventually sold it off, and got the DPMS; been a happy camper since:)

It shouldn't be a surprise that "Brown Bear" ammo doesn't ignite in the rifle. This is Wolf (Russian) manufacture ammo, they typically have "harder" primers than North American/European ammo.
 
DDTC is much like CFC, rules and implimentation of said rules are tough to figure.

Sporting purposes is the key to civilian export, and if you can expound on why a collapsible stock and flash hider are key requirements for sporting use, then it seems to go thru.
If you import a rifle for MIL/LE sale, and the same rifle for commercial sales, they seem to get suspicious and deny the commercial order.
 
Well, for one, I am a small guy. I need the adjustable stock to make it work for me.

If I take my friends and family out for shooting, the stock need to be adjusted for different body sizes.

I cannot see the target at the indoor range without flash suppressor - it blinds me!
 
My friend and I are in the process of building 2 ar 10's as we speak. We have the material and are going to start machining the lowers after Xmas break. Everything else I got from Wolverine. We just finished registering our ar 15 lowers that we made this fall for another project.
 
I own a DMPS with a 24 inches SS tube and the forward assist ( look better !! ) This is sub Moa and function is beyond reproach. Mine has a Magpul PRS stock installed and of course a Harris Bi-pod. This as good as it get for the money and it is available :)
 
I'm currently leaning towards shortandlong's idea with the R25. The price is certainly right, and the reviews/posts on a bunch of American sites are quite positive about the accuracy. I would be changing the furniture anyways, so I would only need to un-mossy-oak the upper and lower receiver.
Does anyone know how big of a gamble it would be to get a gunsmith to thread the barrel for a flash hider, and not effect the accuracy?

Rob, all of our Mk11 Mod2, Mk11 Mod1 and M110 SASS are threaded.

My "personal" M110 for demo's is a .5MOA rifle (and government customers and I beat the piss out of it)

If the barrel is fixtured properly threading the barrel will do nothing to adversely affect the accuracy. Do not exessively torque the FH on, just use rocksett and 15ft/lb torque and it will be GTG.
