.308 at Longer Ranges

I know they have changed components around over time but at one point it was the 175 SMK, IMR 4064 @2600 fps. If i recall they got a court ruling allowing them to use the match king (have that article in a book, would have to find it). What bullet are they using now?

The special lot numbers still use 175 gr SMK.

Here is a write-up on the ever changing M118LR load... It mentions most of the powders, projectiles, and data used in developing the load to where it is today -

At 1114 yard I was up 38.7 moa with a 168 Hornady BTHP. These are my reloads and they were going 2730 fps at 10 feet with a chrono. I was shooting a Remington 700 VSSF 308. The ballsitic app helps at the long ranges and get a shooting solution factoring wind and drop. There a several good books out to help get you started.

I use 175 SMK in a Custom 308 with a 200 yrd zero now. The 10 shot average is at 2800.7 fps. Have a good ballistic calculator and shoot lots. Shooting will give a better sense of what your rifle can do. Reloading will get you better results than using factory ammo. It costs o bit but if you want tight groups it's a place to begin.
