308 BLR need Small Base Dies ??

I just bought a steel 308 Browning '81 BLR Lever Action and was wondeing if it needs a set of Small Base Dies or if my BONANZA BENCH REST SET will do ??

You shouldn't need them. If they are the same price buy them for peace of mind but don't worry about it.

I have quite few 308 rifles, and my log book shows the BLR having the tightest chamber. Anything that will chamber in the BLR will chamber in anything else. Ordinary dies is all it requires.

My wifes BLR in 308, requires small base dies. More than that, it's so damned tight, it requires me to small base size, then either size it again, or run the case through the RCBS file trim die for another sizing.
Yes, it's been to the gunsmith, tight chamber was the pronouncement.
Some overseas factory rounds are a tight fit.
I know, not many BLR's are this tight, but you won't know 'till you try it whether yours is tight or not.

I have run into a few shooters of BLR's and BAR's that have needed to go with a small base die for reliable chambering.

SB Dies

I had a BLR in 308 and I was using military brass for it. Full length resizing was not working 100% of the time so I purchased a set of SB Dies, functioning was much better (100%). I no longer had those hard to seat rounds and hard to extract rounds.

Mine as well. It is not a tack driver however. Minute of moose is what it does (best reload so far is 1.5" at 100)
